Agilent Technologies, Intel to Accelerate Development of PCI Express

4/11/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and Intel Corporation (NYSE: INTC) announced a collaboration to develop the Agilent protocol test card that coincides with the Intel product development solution for the PCI Express market. The resulting protocol test card for PCI Express is expected to allow R&D, quality assurance and design engineers to develop next-generation communication platforms, computers, add-in cards and components based on PCI Express technology.

The protocol test card will be an electrical PCI-Express x1 width implementation with a connector to fit host platform slots of any lane width. It will prove to be a valuable tool for every engineer designing PCI Express solutions and will play a vital role in the development environment. The test card provides comprehensive test functions to ensure compliance with the PCI Express specification and in addition, interoperability with other PCI Express devices. The features will make it affordable for efficient broad industry usage as well as providing sufficient functionality for most protocol-oriented validation environments.

"Agilent supports the adoption of PCI Express technology with its development of a wide range of exercisers and protocol analyzers," said Siegfried Gross, vice president and general manager for Agilent's Digital Verification Solutions Division. "Our collaboration with Intel is a key step in accelerating the development of PCI Express-based products for next-generation computing and communication platforms through compliance tools."

"The joint PCI-Express enabling activity is an important milestone in facilitating the validation of silicon design for PCI Express technology," said Jim Pappas, director of initiative marketing for Intel's Enterprise Platform Group. "We look forward to working with Agilent on the development of the protocol test card."
