4/10/2003 - Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) announced the general availability of STROBE 3.0 and iSTROBE 1.1. By implementing an Application Performance Management program that includes STROBE and iSTROBE, IT organizations can meet the challenges of controlling costs, satisfying customers and supporting corporate growth, while reducing the demand their applications make for system resources.
“STROBE actually tells us how the resources are used, what resources are used and where the bottleneck is to help us focus on the specific problem. That’s a big advantage,” said Joe Reimann, IT Project Coordinator, Comerica.
STROBE blends performance measurement with performance analysis to pinpoint precise sources of application resource demands. STROBE also provides information that enables users to improve transaction response times and shorten batch windows during any life-cycle phase.
Java JVM support is new in STROBE 3.0. This allows organizations to better understand and improve the performance of their Java applications that are running under CICS, batch and WebSphere and that may call DB2, during development and production.
iSTROBE provides an easy-to-use web-browser interface that helps users throughout the IT organization quickly find and solve performance problems. iSTROBE’s performance hints and tips help users understand why performance problems are occurring and how they might be solved.
Also new in iSTROBE 1.1 is complete STROBE subsystem support, as well as new file-management capabilities that help users better manage their profiles.
“In today’s tight economy, executives are looking for cost reduction opportunities. This is a great time to put some focus on tuning your application performance, in order to consolidate platforms, delay upgrades and provide the application infrastructure for the portal and Web Services that will be drawing on mainframe resources in the near future,” said Susan Aldrich, Patricia Seybold Group. “An integrated Application Performance Management solution provides the tools and supports the practices you need in order to achieve the short-term and long-term gains of well tuned applications.”
“STROBE’s Java support is unique in that it provides information on Java as well as other z/OS resources and subsystems being used by the application including WebSphere, CICS and DB2. Measuring a Java application couldn’t be easier and requires no changes to the application or environment,” said Bruce Klenk, STROBE Product Manager. “STROBE’s low-density sampling technology ensures low overhead and allows it to be used with confidence in production and throughout the application life-cycle.”
