Texas Instruments and Newnes Publishers Produce Op Amp Guide for Design Engineers

4/9/2003 - Newnes Publishers, a division of Elsevier Science, and Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) unveiled a single volume, professional-level guide to operational amplifier (op amp) theory and applications entitled "Op Amps for Everyone." Authored by Ron Mancini, staff scientist with Texas Instruments, the book takes a different approach from the traditional textbook treatment of op amp theory in that the book is based on real-world op amps and their applications.

"The op amp is the most versatile and widely used analog integrated circuit found in most every imaginable electronic device," said Dave Wiener, director of marketing for TI's High Performance Analog division. "Because analog design can be complex, TI is committed to making the analog design process easier for the engineer and we anticipate that this book will be a valuable design resource."

The book is a practical reference work and covers topics including:

There is also extensive coverage of circuit construction techniques, including circuit board design, grounding, input and output isolation, using decoupling capacitors, and frequency characteristics of passive components. The material in this book is applicable to op amp ICs from all manufacturers.

"Ron Mancini's book is the first of several titles that Texas Instruments and Elsevier will produce for the engineering community," said Harry Helms, consulting acquisitions editor. "Our experience in technical and scientific publishing combined with TI's leadership experience in analog and digital signal processing technologies, will enable the two companies to produce books and accompanying software that will set new standards in works for electronic professionals."

Ron Mancini has designed analog circuits and subsystems for 35 years and holds a BSEE from Newark College of Engineering and an MSEE from the University of Florida. He has spent the last 18 years in analog applications sharing that knowledge with engineers through a series of magazine articles, application notes, seminars and workshops.
