Sun Debuts iForce Specialties to Help Partners Succeed

4/8/2003 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW) introduced the iForce Specialties, an umbrella initiative to help iForce partners succeed in vertical and horizontal initiatives that are strategic to Sun's business. Sun is adding three new offerings to its portfolio of Specialties the iForce Specialties for Banking, Life Sciences and Manufacturing. These new vertical initiatives join the iForce Elite Specialty for Storage and iForce Specialty for Security offerings to make up the portfolio of iForce Specialties, aimed at helping partners derive more value and revenue-producing opportunities from their Sun relationship.

The three new vertical Specialties target both enterprise and midsize customers, and further support Sun's strategy to expand sales to midsize businesses, or those businesses with 100 to 1,000 employees. Sun's mid-market push is 100 percent partner-driven, and focuses on delivering tested solutions specifically tailored to the unique business requirements of target customers in the banking, life sciences and manufacturing verticals.

"Customers look to Sun and its iForce partners to understand their unique business needs," said Cheryl Kelly, global director of iForce marketing for Sun Microsystems, Inc. "With the iForce Specialties, Sun gives partners incentive to provide proven, tested solutions that help meet these customers' needs in strategic horizontal and vertical markets. It's a true win-win for partners and customers, as well as for Sun."

As part of their participation in these Specialties, partners will have access to additional joint marketing funds and marketing support, increased visibility within the Sun sales and iForce directories, and access to other partners within the iForce community to create new business opportunities. Industry-leading partners have already joined the iForce Specialties initiative, including financial services partners Infosys and Kirchman; life sciences partners Accelerys, Applied Biosystems, MDL Information Systems, SCC, Spotfire and TimeLogic; and manufacturing partner Laurus Technologies.

The iForce Specialties initiative is made up of five Specialties focused on increasing profitability and simplifying business processes for Sun partners. The initial two specialties -- iForce Elite Specialty for Storage and the iForce Specialty for Security --have gained momentum among the iForce partner community since their inception last year. The Sun iForce Elite Specialty for Storage helps partners meet customer requirements for complex storage integration; the Sun iForce Specialty for Security helps partners meet customer needs in the areas of perimeter security, secure identity, secure access and secure Web services.
