Agilent Demos Electronic Manufacturing Test Products at Nepcon Shanghai

4/8/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that it will showcase a variety of new electronic manufacturing test products at Nepcon Shanghai, including the new Agilent SJ50 Series II Value system, a dedicated post-reflow automated optical inspection (AOI) system for small printed circuit boards.

Designed for electronics manufacturing customers around the world, the system’s flexible pricing and easily upgradeable design allows customers in China’s growing electronics manufacturing industry to cost-effectively add test capacity to meet rising production volumes of their next-generation electronics products.

“Although this new test system is designed for our electronics manufacturing customers around the world, our China-based customers have the most acute need for the SJ50 Value system’s capabilities. China accounts for the largest share of growth in the Asian electronics market, and Agilent is helping to fuel that growth through board test systems that balance price and performance,” said Amos Leong, vice-president and general manager, Agilent EMT global sales, marketing and support organization. “Agilent began partnering with China-based electronics companies more than 10 years ago, and is now recognized as a valuable partner to China’s growing high-tech industries.”

The Agilent SJ50 Value system, a dedicated post-reflow automated optical inspection (AOI) system is designed specifically to meet cost-sensitive inspection challenges of small printed circuit boards up to 400mm x 400mm. The Agilent SJ50 Value system scales to cost-effectively address small board test challenges, providing an ideal test solution for China’s growing consumer electronics manufacturing industry.

The Agilent SJ50 Value system features standard post-reflow test capabilities, with pre-reflow capabilities available as an optional upgrade. The system includes new solid shape modeling capabilities that produce realistic images of components and solder joints through patent-pending, three-dimensional shape analysis, and allows for the highest possible call accuracy, significant reduction in repair time, and overall reduction in cost of test.

The SJ50’s new value system also features two complete software engines, combining the high call accuracy of feature extraction algorithms with the ease of programming of geometric pattern matching algorithms. Additionally, a Chinese-language interface is also available to assist technicians with set-up, repairs and operation. More information about Agilent’s AOI offerings is available at

Agilent’s test systems offer dynamic solutions to the emerging test needs of China’s electronics manufacturing industry. In addition to products, Agilent also supports China’s growing business needs with its full suite of service and support solutions. The company has also opened a Shanghai Application Development Center to advance software development, as well as to facilitate the continued education of local professionals in test and measurement technology.
