Momentum Speeds Embedded Systems Delivery with Application Computers

4/7/2003 - Momentum Computer, an innovative developer specializing in quick turnaround of high-performance board-level solutions, now offers a selection of Applications-Specific Computers that can further speed delivery and minimize development costs for embedded systems.

“After developing and building custom board-level computers for some of the most demanding markets including data/telecommunications, military and aerospace, we realized that we had created a range of building blocks that could be used to satisfy similar applications with decreased time to market,” explained Harry White president of Momentum Computer.

With this new offering, Momentum’s engineering team will analyze the customer’s specific application and match it to the most appropriate platform. In many cases, they can suggest a solution that will meet the customer’s requirement with minimal development time and at a significantly lower cost than a fully custom development. Momentum’s “building blocks” include platforms with a number of different processors and configurations including: Pentium®, PowerPC®, MIPS, UltraSparcTM, CompactPCI®, PICMG 2.16®, VMETM, PMCPr, ATXTM and Advanced TCATM.

Recently, Momentum customer TeleSuite Corporation ( of Englewood, Ohio introduced their new TeleSuite Managed Video Array High Definition product that incorporates four of Momentum’s Ocelot 6U CompactPCI (cPCI) single-board computers configured for quad-channel video output. “We were able to shave significant cost from our system’s Compression Array Codec by tailoring these existing embedded systems for our high-demand requirements,” explained Herold Williams, president of TeleSuite, a leading provider of virtual conference room technology and services. “We also worked with Momentum on the new system’s custom DSP [digital signal processing] video input boards, but getting a head-start with ‘Application-Specific’ output boards facilitated the quality process, improved performance and allowed the whole project to progress more smoothly,” Williams added.
