4/7/2003 - Express Logic announced FileX support for M-Systems’ DiskOnChip. Express Logic's FileX provides real-time embedded developers with an MS-DOS compatible file system that supports 12, 16 and 32-bit FAT formats, contiguous file allocation, and is highly optimized for both size and performance. Of course, FileX is completely integrated with ThreadX, Express Logic’s high performance Real-Time Operating System. And now with support for M-Systems’ DiskOnChip family of products, FileX offers a faster, low-cost solution for data storage applications that require limited space.
DiskOnChip is a family of high-performance, single-chip flash disks available in a wide range of capacities from 16MB to 1GB. This unique data-storage solution offers a faster, low cost solution for applications with limited space. M-Systems’ TrueFFS technology provides full read/write disk emulation.
FileX has minimal function call layering, an internal logical sector cache, contiguous cluster allocation, and consecutive cluster reading and writing. All of these attributes make FileX extremely fast and a good fit for digital cameras and several new markets including audio and video intensive applications. FileX is currently deployed in many customer products, including DriveCam Video Systems. DriveCam uses FileX to store real-time driving events (video and sensory) for later analysis. HP Photosmart printers also utilize FileX, as does Thermo King. Thermo King uses Filex in their line of climate control solutions for global transportation industries.
A hallmark of FileX is its ease of use. The FileX API is both intuitive and highly functional. In addition, the FileX API is made of real words - not the “alphabet soup” names that are common to other file system products. Building a FileX application is also easy. Simply include the FX_API.H fill in the application software and link the application objects with the FileX library. The resulting image is ready for execution – it’s that simple!
“Support for M-Systems' DiskOnChip products is of great benefit to deeply embedded applications. M-Systems' DiskOnChip devices provide high performance and low cost storage solutions for applications with limited resources. FileX provides applications with similar performance and cost benefits,” says William E. Lamie, President and CEO of Express Logic. “Our integration with M-Systems DiskOnChip technology will definitely help customers get better quality products to market in less time.”
“We are pleased to have ThreadX support for DiskOnChip. The advanced ThreadX RTOS continues to make significant gains in popularity within the embedded market. Our combined support offers designers easy integration and increased storage capacities," said Chuck Schouw, president and CEO of M-Systems Inc.
