TI Introduces Complete, Easy-to-Use Data Acquisition System in SOT23-6

4/4/2003 - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) announced the industry´s only 16-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with an onboard voltage reference and tiny SOT23-6 packaging. This low-priced, easy-to-use data acquisition system from the company´s Burr-Brown product line offers the industry´s highest level of integration and performance for a SOT23-packaged delta-sigma ADC.

The ADS1110 is designed for high-resolution measurement applications where space and power consumption represent crucial considerations, such as consumer goods, handheld instrumentation, portable medical equipment and industrial process control.

"By integrating a precision ADC, voltage reference, programmable gain amplifier, oscillator and I2CTM interface into a SOT23 package, the ADS1110 provides unrivaled integration and precision at a minimum of effort and cost," said Jim Todsen, product line manager for TI´s oversampling data converter products.

The ADS1110 is a fully-differential, self-calibrating ADC with true 16-bit no missing codes performance. Conversions are performed using an onboard 2.048V reference (0.05% accuracy, 5ppm/C drift) with programmable data rates of 15, 30, 60 or 240 samples per second. An onboard programmable gain amplifier (gains up to 8) allows smaller signals to be measured with high resolution.

The ADS1110 features low current consumption (240ľA) and can be configured to automatically power down after a conversion. The device uses an I2C interface and operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V power supply.

With the incorporation of a precision voltage reference, the ADS1110 successfully extends the integration of the already available ADS1100. This growing family of devices from TI offers the industry's smallest 16-bit delta-sigma ADCs with system-oriented functionality.

Available Today
The ADS1110 comes in a SOT23-6 package, and is available now from TI and its authorized distributors. Suggested resale pricing starts at $1.95 in 1,000 piece quantities. An evaluation fixture is also available.
