SPIRIT Line Echo Canceling Software to Power GL Communications' Products

4/2/2003 - SPIRIT (www.spiritDSP.com), the largest eXpressDSP-compliant software developer in Europe (TI processor socket sales data for 2001), and GL Communications (www.gl.com), a leading provider of PC-based telecommunications test, analysis and simulation products, announce an agreement whereby SPIRIT licenses its G.168-2000 line echo canceling (LEC) software for use in GL's products.

SPIRIT's G.168-2000 software is intended to cancel the echo caused by hybrid connection at the 2/4-wire conversion points in telephone networks by subtracting an estimated echo from circuit echo. The algorithm conforms to ITU-T G.165/G.168-2000 recommendations.

Two basic modifications of G.168-2000 currently offered by SPIRIT include "Enhanced version" particularly oriented on high speech quality requirements and targeted for advanced telephony applications, and "MIPS Economy version", with low MIPS and memory requirements, tailored for MIPS-critical telephony applications, such as simple telephony conferencing devices.

"We pay close attention to quality of our solutions, recognizing the high impact that voice quality has on clear, comfortable telephone talks " - says Andrew Sviridenko, SPIRIT's founding CEO. "The Echo Canceller software solution licensed to GL Communication is the Enhanced version of SPIRIT's Echo Canceller, distinguished by excellent speech quality, robust double talk detector and no divergence during double talk and narrow-band signals. We are pleased to see that our attention to voice quality has yielded us an echo canceller solution that meets requirements of our clients and enables to improve voice quality and good service of wire line networks."

"SPIRIT's G.168 software was easy to incorporate into our EC testing solutions, says Vijay Kulkarni, CEO of GL Communications. "The adoption of SPIRIT's software represents an enhancement to our roster of echo canceller testing solutions that range from manual, lab-oriented approaches to fully-automated, production-oriented, approaches. The enhancements complement our Voice Quality Testing (VQT) functionality for wireless and wireline networks, employing PAMS, PSQM, and PESQ algorithms."
