TI Introduces 14A Excalibur Plug-In Power Modules for Point-of-Load Applications

4/2/2003 - Texas Instruments announced a new series of 14A output, 5V input plug-in power modules in 12-pin, 8mm-tall ExcaliburTM packages targeted at point-of load applications such as high-end microprocessors and digital signal processors (DSPs).

TI´s PT6460 modules, which are 50 percent smaller than previous generations of 14A modules, operate from a 5V input bus and include output voltage options as low as 1.0V of direct current. Other key features include:

  • 94 Percent Efficiency
  • Pre-Bias Startup Capability
  • Adjustable Output Voltage
  • Output Remote Sense
  • On/Off Inhibit
  • Over-Current Protection
  • Surface Mount Compatible
  • IPC Lead Free 2

Packaging, Pricing and Availability
TI´s PT6460 modules are packaged in a 12-pin low-profile Excalibur copper case that requires no heat-sink, and offers the advantages of solderability. Measuring 43mm by 17mm, the Excalibur cases meet critical 8mm height tolerances in horizontal mounting and are available in through-hole and surface mount pin configurations. PT6460 power modules are now available in volume from TI and its authorized distributors. Pricing per module in quantities of 1,000 is $17.53.
