Corelis' Boundary-scan Test System Gangs Up on Flash Memories and CPLDs

3/31/2003 - Corelis Inc., unveiled a high-volume production boundary-scan test and in-circuit programming system, ScanExpressTM, that enables concurrent (gang) testing and in-system programming of Flash devices and CPLDs for up to 1,024 boards using a single PC and a single operator. The ScanExpressTM family of products dramatically increases the test and in-system programming throughput by applying new, innovative, and proprietary techniques tailored specifically for optimizing boundary-scan operating speed.

ScanExpressTM concurrently applies test and programming vectors to each of its TAPs while simultaneously verifying results in hardware, at each individual TAP with sustained test clock (TCK) frequencies reaching 80 MHz. The ScanExpressTM High-Performance Boundary-Scan Test and In-Circuit Programming System is targeted specifically to users whose applications demand the highest possible scan vector throughput and high-volume production.

ScanExpressTM has an intelligent boundary-scan architecture that can be used in the testing and programming of devices, boards, or systems, compliant with IEEE Std 1149.1. The ScanExpressTM system offers excellent performance due to its large array of performance-enhancing innovations that increase test vector throughput. Boundary-Scan test vectors developed with Corelis' ScanPlusTPGTM Test Program Generator can be executed directly on the ScanExpressTM system.

"With this new architecture, we are able to support the testing and in-circuit programming of extremely large, dense, and complex board assemblies in practically unlimited volume. The ScanExpressTM system is capable of not only concurrently testing and programming high-volume board assemblies but also concurrently verifying results. The verification process is performed concurrently for each individual TAP by hardware in real-time. All this can be accomplished at TCK speeds reaching 80 MHz, thus greatly reducing test and programming times" said Jim Rodgers, Technical Marketing Engineer at Corelis Inc. "An example of what this means for the user is that if it takes 2 minutes to test and program a single board, then it will also take only 2 minutes to test and program 1024 boards. This translates to an effective test and ISP throughput of just one tenth of a second per board."

The ScanExpressTM System is comprised of scalable components designed to work together to support an unlimited variety of concurrent testing and in-circuit programming configurations. Core elements of this system include the highly advanced PCI-1149.1/TurboTM boundary-scan controller and the ScanExpress RunnerTM software; a powerful, yet easy to use Test Executive designed specifically for high-volume applications. Additional modules can then be added depending on the volume demands of the user.

The ScanExpressTM system is available from stock with prices starting from $30,000.
