3/28/2003 - Marimba, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRBA), the Software Change-Management Company, announced that Oxfam has selected Marimba's Desktop/Mobile Management products to manage its global desktop and laptop environment. Marimba's software will be used to manage Oxfam's IT infrastructure that supports more than 80 development aid projects, including remote locations from around the world.
Prior to the implementation of Marimba's software, Oxfam's PC environment was managed manually, which meant that IT consultants would have to travel to remote locations to repair damaged PCs or upgrade the software. This process was lengthy and, as a result, Oxfam's communications were frequently delayed.
Despite these challenges of targeting remote sites with limited bandwidth, Marimba's Desktop/Mobile Management products will automatically distribute applications and updates, which also can be managed from a central location. In addition, up-to-date hardware and software information can be collected from Oxfam's PC base without disrupting end-users. Access to this data will allow Oxfam to audit its software and help the company to achieve its goal of becoming FAST (Federation Against Software Theft) compliant.
Margaret Pinnington, customer services manager at Oxfam, commented, "Oxfam's IT operation is essential for efficient communication with employees and project partners across the globe. Marimba recognized our needs as an international development charity for a management solution that would consistently deliver technically, but was also cost and time efficient."
Adrian Rayner, Marimba's general manager of European sales and operations, commented, "The need to manage applications across desktops and laptops presents distributed organizations like Oxfam with a huge technical and administrative challenge. Marimba's technology is well-suited to manage software in such a highly dispersed environment. Many thousands of remote machines can be centrally controlled and managed, substantially reducing the need for on-site help by skilled IT staff. As a result, the advantages to organizations are reduced costs and improved quality of service."
Marimba, Inc., the Software Change-Management Company, is headquartered in Mountain View, Calif. Marimba's Desktop/Mobile Management, Server Change Management, and Embedded Management product families allow Global 2000 companies to better manage their IT resources, increase operational efficiency and reduce IT costs.
