3/26/2003 - Fujitsu Invia closed an agreement on the Provia service with Espoo, the second largest city in Finland. The total value of this agreement for a period of three years is nearly EUR 4.5 million.
A total of 3,000 workstations from the Espoo municipal network will be transferred to the Provia service. The municipal network covers all Espoo city schools, the workstations in the city’s adult education centres, common service points and museums, as well as the public workstations of the City Youth Department. The libraries' public workstations will be included in the service at the beginning of 2004.
The Provia service for Espoo includes user and on-site support, server and LAN maintenance, user administration, information security services and the management of fixed assets and licences.
The first phase of the Provia service commenced at the beginning of March, when Fujitsu Invia became responsible for the services. All the Provia services will be available to their full extent by July 2003.
With the agreement, fifteen members of Espoo City's IT personnel transferred to become employees of Fujitsu Invia.
"We calculated that an outsourced service would bring us some economies compared to our own production. However, our biggest expectations concern the quality of the service. Outsourced IT services are less dependent on individual employees. Furthermore, in this way we have wider expertise at our service and do not need to invest in its development. It is also important for us that support services are available outside our regular working hours", says Jukka T. Mäkelä, Information Management Director, Espoo City.
