Verification is 1000 Times Faster with Agilent's AVM Technology

3/26/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) announced automatic verification modeling (AVM), a new simulation technology available in the Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) 2003A. The new technology allows for design verification of communication circuits and systems at speeds of up to 1,000 times faster than previous methods.

ADS 2003A is a new version of Agilent's communications electronic design automation (EDA) software, a design and simulation environment used in the creation of products such as cellular phones, pagers, wireless and broadband networks, and radar and satellite communications systems. Verification of RF (radio frequency) and microwave circuit designs is typically 200 times faster with AVM, and in some cases, up to 1,000 times faster. Fast verification early in the design process enables engineers to move to full-scale production more quickly, accelerating time-to-market and reducing development costs of new products.

"Verifying design performance early in the design cycle, before fabrication, can have a significant impact on development time and cost, and can reduce integration risk," said Joe Civello, ADS product manager for Agilent EEsof EDA. "Automatic verification modeling dramatically reduces the time required to verify that wireless designs comply with the latest wireless standards."

AVM helps engineers verify that circuit performance meets digitally modulated wireless standards such as IEEE 802.11a/b/g, 3GPP W-CDMA and EDGE. AVM automatically creates behavioral models that allow designers to focus on areas of critical interest without compromising accuracy. The technology enables designers to perform rapid performance checks, such as BER (bit error rate), PER (packet error rate) and EVM (error vector magnitude) throughout the verification process with up to 99.9 percent accuracy.

AVM harnesses the co-simulation capability of Agilent's circuit envelope and Ptolemy simulators. Applications include verification of complex RF and microwave circuits and systems, including mixers, amplifiers, IQ modulators, demodulators and filters.
