3/25/2003 - Xiran, a division of SimpleTech focused on developing content delivery acceleration solutions, is poised to set a new standard in streaming media delivery performance. Xiran is the first licensee to market a hardware acceleration solution using the Helix Universal Server software from RealNetworks -- one of the highest performing media delivery server software in the world. Xiran's acceleration solution, based on its DirectPath streaming media protocol, off-load hardware and associated firmware, will offer up to 10X throughput improvement for Helix Universal Servers. Xiran and RealNetworks have begun joint co-marketing and co-operative technology initiatives based on DirectPath accelerator cards and systems further expanding the Helix Universal Server as the streaming server standard in the marketplace.
"RealNetworks' Helix Universal Server software, with its scalability, openness and support for all media formats, is an ideal match for our protocol agnostic DirectPath content acceleration technology," said Jeanclaude Toma, vice president of marketing and business development for Xiran. "When fully integrated, the combination of the Helix Universal Server and DirectPath technologies can stream virtually any media format, including RealAudio, RealVideo, Windows Media, QuickTime MPEG-4, and H.264 up to 10 times the capacity of any other solution currently available. This performance improvement translates directly into reducing the cost of ownership for servers delivering streaming media by more than 75 percent."
"The combination of our Helix Universal Server and Xiran's DirectPath, content delivery acceleration technology should give our customers the extra capacity to reach the widest possible audience at a low hardware cost," said Dan Sheeran, vice president, marketing, RealNetworks, Inc. "Our customers can now use a single media delivery platform to webcast their message to RealOne and RealPlayer users, as well as Windows Media and QuickTime player users."
Xiran's support for Helix Universal Servers will be showcased at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in April in Las Vegas. Xiran also intends to make its complete technology solution available for OEMs and end users in card/blade and 2U rack-mount server form factors in the second quarter of 2003, with solutions for video-on-demand and network- attached storage planned for the second half of 2003.
Xiran, a division of SimpleTech (Nasdaq: STEC), is a technology leader in developing advanced solutions for accelerating content delivery by servers between storage and networks at wire speeds. Located in Irvine, California, the company combines proprietary hardware, firmware and software to implement its DirectPath family of products and systems. These are aimed at improving Serverwidth and performance in several high growth markets ranging from streaming media and video-on-demand to emerging enterprise applications involving storage area networks.
