Agilent Ranked as Top Automated Test Equipment Supplier in 2002

3/21/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that the company advanced four places in an industry report ranking the world's top 15 semiconductor equipment manufacturers. Agilent achieved the highest ranking among the automated test equipment (ATE) suppliers for 2002, according to the report by VLSI Research.

The newly published industry rankings are derived from VLSI Research's Executive Advisory, issued Feb. 21, 2003. According to the report, Agilent was the only ATE company to show sales growth in 2002.

"With the weak economy, the industry downturn continued during 2002. However, the industry still had a few bright spots," said Risto Puhakka, vice president, VLSI Research. "The greatest leap was shown by Agilent who moved up four positions in overall semiconductor equipment suppliers ranking in 2002. They demonstrated tremendous momentum to move from a challenger position to become a leading player in semiconductor test equipment."

The ATE industry has shrunk significantly in the last two years, decreasing the absolute sales differences between the top competitors to small numbers. However, the relative size of competitors has changed dramatically. In VLSI's 2000 report, the top ranking company among ATE suppliers had twice the revenue of Agilent. In 2002, Agilent eliminated this large gap to receive the top ranking.

"Achieving a leadership parity position in the semiconductor ATE industry, especially in a down market, is a significant accomplishment for us," said Jack Trautman, senior vice president and general manager, Agilent's Automated Test Group. "It means we continue to develop the right tools for process diagnostics, flash memory test and SOC test. More importantly, it validates the confidence that our customers have shown in Agilent's ability to meet their needs in higher performance requirements, improved yields and throughput, and lower cost of test."
