Wavecom, Multi-Tech to Develop New Line of Embedded Wireless Modems

3/18/2003 - Wavecom, Inc. and Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., announced at the CTIA Wireless 2003 show, a partnership that combines Wavecom’s wireless technology with Multi-Tech’s embedded and external data communications products. Wavecom will supply Multi-Tech with WISMO® Quik integrated wireless modules for use in a new line of embedded and external wireless modems.

The new line of WISMO-based products from Multi-Tech include both GSM/GPRS and CDMA implementations of an embedded modem suitable for integration into OEM devices, as well as external GSM/GPRS and CDMA offerings geared towards applications requiring a standalone unit.

WISMO Quik from Wavecom is an integrated, ready-to-use wireless solution that enables companies like Multi-Tech to incorporate GSM/GPRS or CDMA connectivity quickly and cost-effectively. WISMO Quik offers a simple upgrade path, as well as full backwards and forwards compatibility, which shortens development timelines and reduces overall costs as additional products are brought to market.

The embedded GSM/GPRS and CDMA SocketModem products are drop-in wireless solutions with a similar form factor to Multi-Tech’s existing SocketModem family. The embedded GSM/GPRS and CDMA ModemModule products have the same form factor as – and are pin-for-pin compatible with – the Wavecom Integra products and include a CDMA model and GSM/GPRS class 10 performance. The external GSM/GPRS and CDMA MultiModem products are RS-232 DE-15 Voice/Data interface models using a similar form factor to the Wavecom Fastrack and include CDMA and GSM/GPRS Class 10 performance, water-resistant design and additional diagnostic LED functionality.
