3/18/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Agilent Ventures has participated in the Series A Preferred Stock funding round for SiRiFIC Wireless Corporation, a privately held semiconductor company that develops radio frequency (RF) transceivers for wireless products.
The Agilent Ventures investment was part of a Series A preferred round of funding, led by Business Development Bank of Canada, which raised more than $13.5 million in equity. Founded in 2000, SiRiFIC Wireless Corporation's multi-band and multi-standard RF transceivers are designed to enable new levels of performance and integration for direct conversion CMOS architectures. SiRiFIC's patented technology offers a unique approach to solving the complexities related to multiple standards, radio frequency technologies, numerous component layers, costs and roaming.
"Agilent Ventures' investment in SiRiFIC underscores our ongoing commitment to invest in pioneering, early-stage companies developing innovative technologies with a strategic impact for Agilent," said Maximilian Schroeck, managing director for Agilent Ventures. "Our investments, which are global in scope, enable Agilent to extend its technology platform, spanning optical and wireless communications, as well as the life sciences."
"SiRiFIC's CMOS based multi-standard RF transceiver technology complements our existing wireless product solutions and technology investments," said Jeff Henderson, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Personal Systems Business Unit. "Agilent is one of the few companies with expertise in CMOS technology that can leverage RF technology for mobile communications to provide cost-effective, high-volume solutions."
"SiRiFIC is excited to have Agilent as a strategic partner and investor. Agilent's position in the wireless market is an excellent complement to our transceiver technology," said Mike Hogan, president and CEO of SiRiFIC Wireless Corporation. "This is another positive step for SiRiFIC as we implement our unique approach to create high-performance direct conversion CMOS transceivers for solutions in the multi-band, multi-standard wireless terminal market."
