3/18/2003 - Ericsson has a clear market recognition over any player within the Bluetooth industry, according to a study by Frost & Sullivan. They have presented Ericsson with their Engineering Award for Bluetooth Brand Recognition.
"We are all very happy," said Johan Åkesson, Marketing Director, Ericsson Technology Licensing. "It is a recognition for the whole Bluetooth team at Ericsson. Bluetooth was our idea and we have been working with the technology since its birth." Ericsson Technology Licensing is a separate company within Ericsson, focused on Bluetooth and the development of Bluetooth design solutions for semiconductor companies.
From 1994, when it was just an idea, to 2003, Bluetooth is now a wireless technology adopted by more than 2500 companies all over the world. 28 million Bluetooth units were shipped last year and forecasts for 2003 are three times as high.
"As the original developer of the Bluetooth wireless technology, Ericsson has continued to maintain a high profile within the Bluetooth industry and boasts one of the most comprehensive product lines," said Michael Wall, Industry Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "Our end-user study found that when respondents were asked what vendors they were currently using or planning to use for Bluetooth products, 40% of responses were allocated to Ericsson, more than double that of the second highest scoring vendor."
The survey was carried out throughout August and September of 2002 and comprised a total of 101 in-depth interviews with employees who had significant influence over the purchasing of wireless communications equipment and services. Respondents were from a broad spectrum of companies across Western Europe, ranging from less than 100 employees to over 15,000 employees.
Frost & Sullivan recognizes outstanding industry achievements by presenting Market Engineering Awards to top companies in a variety of regional and global markets. The awards commend excellence for specific marketing qualities, such as leadership, strategy, service, innovation, integration and development. This is not the first time that they have awarded Ericsson for Bluetooth recognition. In 2001, Ericsson was awarded the Best Brand Awareness Development for its Bluetooth products.
