3/17/2003 - Ampro Computers, Inc., the inventor and leading supplier of CPU modules and single board computers (SBCs) for non-backplane embedded systems, announced that TimeSys Corporation has certified its Embedded Linux® OS and software development kit for use with the EnCoreTM 400, EnCore 500, and EnCore 700 CPU modules, as well as the new 486-based CoreModuleTM 400 PC/104-compatible SBC and Little Board P5v EBX-compatible SBC. Certification of embedded Linux gives system OEMs the confidence they need to get a small-footprint Linux running properly on commercial hardware complete with integrated GNU toolchains and all device drivers. Ampro's customers in medical, military & aerospace, industrial control, transportation, and instrumentation market segments save valuable time and get new products to market faster by using hardware and software which are tested extensively together.
"With a certified embedded TimeSys Linux SDK for our PowerPCTM, MIPS®, and most popular x86 boards, Ampro has successfully executed our strategy to offer OEMs the broadest base of commercial Linux-ready hardware in the industry," said Joanne Williams, president and CEO of Ampro. "We understand the critical importance of Linux to our customers, and have accordingly made the investment in device drivers and certification testing through our TimeSys partnership."
"The penetration of Linux into such a broad spectrum of applications shows that embedded Linux has truly come of age," said Larry Weidman, CEO of TimeSys Corporation. "Now Ampro's customer base can tap into our enhanced GPL Linux kernel, royalty-free Linux RTOS, and CPU and Network reservation technology, benefiting from the only embedded Linux distribution to guarantee resource availability under loaded conditions."
Additionally, TimeSys provides all the Linux tools needed for OEMs to create new value, such as the new TimeStormTM 2.0 integrated development environment, powered by Eclipse technology, for Linux and Windows-hosted cross-platform capabilities; TimeTrace®, a Windows-hosted target platform for event tracing, timing analysis and visualization tool; and TimeWiz®, a Windows-hosted real-time analysis and simulation tool. These tools integrate seamlessly with the TimeSys Linux SDK for all EnCore CPU modules, plus CoreModule 400 and Little Board P5v SBCs, and are available from TimeSys (www.timesys.com).
