3/17/2003 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, announced that its RC32334 processor from its InterpriseTM PCI family of integrated communications processors has been selected by Z-Com, a Taiwan-based wireless networking solution provider for top-tier OEMs. Z-Com will use the IDT InterpriseTM processor to power the company’s new IEEE 802.11g wireless local area networking (WLAN) access-point product. Chosen for its performance, overall level of integration and complete third-party software support, the RC32334 enables Z-Com’s 802.11g wireless access solution at price points competitive with existing 802.11b solutions. Implementing the 54 Mbps 802.11g standard, the Z-com wireless solution offers significant performance advantages compared to the 11 Mbps 802.11b standard, making it an ideal solution for multi-user environments such as SOHO applications and Internet “hot spots” frequently found in airports, hotels and coffee shops. Additionally, the 802.11g standard operates on the same 2.4 GHz radio band that supports 802.11b, making the higher-performing Z-Com solution compatible with existing 802.11b hardware and network interface cards.
The RC32334 processor offers communications equipment manufacturers design flexibility and outstanding price/performance in an integrated, single-chip solution. To enhance bandwidth, the processor provides a 32-bit PCI interface supporting three external bus masters operating up to 66 MHz. The RC32334 processor also integrates a flexible memory controller and standard general-purpose system modules including a DMA controller, interrupt controller and serial ports, in a small BGA package. Together, this suite of features makes the RC32334 processor ideal for Z-Com’s wireless access point (WAP) solution.
“Integrated communications processors from IDT deliver the computing power necessary to support the emerging 802.11g standard,” stated John Hsieh, president of Z-Com. “The integration levels and price/performance ratio of the RC32334 device, as well as the application software provided by IDT, enabled us to meet the system cost, scalability and time-to-market goals we set for our product. I believe that we will have a close, long-term relationship with IDT that will help us to deliver best-in-class solutions for the highly competitive wireless communications market.”
“Original design manufacturers in Taiwan and throughout the Asia-Pacific region are playing a critical role in bringing leading-edge technologies to worldwide markets,” said Barry Yi, APAC regional sales manager for IDT. “We are committed to serving innovative companies, like Z-Com, with our InterpriseTM family of high-performance integrated communications processors and by providing a full range of development tools, application support and local design resources to meet their performance and time–to-market needs.”
