Fujitsu Reduces Complexity, Creates Value with New Products

3/14/2003 - Fujitsu Siemens Computers is announcing a whole host of new products and solutions at CeBIT 2003 under the banner of "reduce complexity – create value". In bringing its strategy to market these two key benefits of Mobility and Business Critical Computing (BCC) have been of paramount importance to customers across Europe.

"FlexFrame for mySAP": TCO reduction by up to 60 percent
The innovative Business Critical Computing solution "FlexFrame for mySAP" - a joint development by Fujitsu Siemens Computers, SAP and Network Appliance - significantly simplifies the introduction and operation of mySAP infrastructures, while at the same time reducing the TCO by up to 60 percent. And on top of all this, the solution, which is based on the Linux operating system, reduces installation and operating costs. The package comprises a small number of standardized components and offers seamless scalability from small systems with some 50 users to large systems with several thousand users. The services used by a mySAP solution, such as Internet Transaction Server (ITS), database, central instance or application instance, have been fully virtualized in the course of this project and can be switched dynamically between the available servers.

SysFrame: Autonomic Systems are optmizing themselves
At CeBIT, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is presenting its strategy for developing and providing autonomic systems, which has been branded SysFrame. Autonomic systems, which are able to monitor and optimize themselves largely independently, are intended to bring about considerable reductions in the cost of operating complex IT infrastructures. The central idea of SysFrame is the automatic response of a living organism to changes in itself and its environment. Applied to IT, this means the development of self-management functions for IT platforms. In specific terms, this involves configurations of servers, storage systems, connectivity tools, and middleware for particular areas of application that have been pre-tested in the laboratory, and which are intended to reduce the operating costs of the IT infrastructure.

PRIMERGY TX and RX servers redefine reliability in the entry-server segment
Fujitsu Siemens Computers refreshed its Intel-based PRIMERGY server range in the class of one- and two-processor systems. Starting with the launch of five new entry servers, the new PRIMERGY TX line (tower housing) and RX line (rack-optimized housing) servers are set to redefine reliability. All new servers are validated and certified for Linux, Novell, Windows 2000, and especially for the new operating system Windows Server 2003, which makes them perfectly suited as a stable platform for Windows NT transition projects.

"PRIMEPOWER Extended Architecture": Roadmap for PRIMEPOWER servers
In autumn 2002 Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced its 5th generation of Solarisä/SPARCä-based PRIMEPOWER Enterprise Servers with Extended Architecture for Business Critical Computing environments. PRIMEPOWER servers are developed by Fujitsu Ltd. in Japan, and sold by Fujitsu Siemens Computers in EMEA, Fujitsu Ltd. in Asia/Pacific, and Fujitsu Technology Solutions in North America. Shipments of the new PRIMEPOWER models began in February 2003 and general availability will be from June 2003 on. First customers of "PRIMEPOWER Extended Architecture" include OSRAM GmbH. OSRAM, one of the world’s largest lighting manufacturers, has decided to use a high availability solution to move toward the goal of integrating and consolidating its IT platform in order to run the mySAP Business Suite.

CentricStor for Tape Storage Consolidation and Tape Virtualization
With CentricStor 100, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is now bringing Virtual Tape Appliance technology within reach for smaller and medium sized enterprises. While similar in design and architecture to the also newly launched CentricStor 400, the CentricStor 100 supports consolidated tape processing in entry-level environments as proven many times over in data centers. Thanks to the new hardware generation, the world leading virtualization concept makes traditional backup and restore concepts a thing of the past. The new CentricStor 400 enterprise model offers throughput rates of over 1 Gbyte/sec thanks to its highly extensible "full fibre disk cache" and new high-performance processor technology.

New Symmetrix DMX family redefines the high end of the storage market
Fujitsu Siemens Computers announced the availability of the EMC Symmetrix® DMXTM Series, featuring a next generation architecture that will help users address their high-end storage challenges for the next decade. The Symmetrix DMX (Direct MatriX) Architecture advances well beyond yesterday's bus and switch architectures using direct, dedicated I/O paths within the array, while providing a clear roadmap to future enhancements. It is delivering industries highest values in data bandwidth, I/O bandwidth, processing power and connectivity.

BeanTransaction V3.0: middleware for the increased requirements of mobile users
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is showing Version 3.0 of its BeanTransactions application server at CeBIT 2003. The software product is part of the openSEAS software suite. The new functions of Version 3.0 make it easier to set up the stable IT infrastructures now demanded more than ever before because of the growing requirements of today's mobile users. The price for the product, which is available immediately, are determined by the relevant framework conditions and the size of the project.
