3/14/2003 - STMicroelectronics, a global provider of semiconductor solutions for microelectronics applications, has selected Agilent's radio frequency design environment (RFDE) as its environment of choice for RF/mixed-signal IC design. STMicroelectronics has begun a phased approach to upgrading their R&D operations to the Agilent and Cadence RFDE-based design flow. Announced in June 2002, the Agilent RFDE simulates critical RF specifications with dramatic speed, accuracy and efficiency.
"When Cadence and Agilent formed their alliance, they listened to our request for tools interoperability and responded with a tightly coupled RFIC design flow," said Jean-Pierre Geronimi, central R&D CAD director at STMicroelectronics. "Standardizing on the RF Design Environment will increase our designer productivity and reduce our CAD infrastructure-related costs."
Agilent RFDE is an RF electronic design automation (EDA) software platform that tightly integrates leading RF simulation technologies from Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS) into Cadence Design System's industry-standard analog and mixed signal design flow. RFDE is the first product to result from the alliance with Cadence, giving analog and RF engineers access to frequency-domain simulation technology from within the Cadence environment.
"Early guidance from ST really made a difference in this joint project with Agilent," said Yaakov Milstain, corporate vice president and general manager of Cadence Custom IC. "Our customers are already seeing results from the RF/mixed-signal IC alliance that we formed with Agilent, and they can expect more to come. Our respective development teams are already collaborating on the next phase of the alliance roadmap."
"We have a long-standing relationship with STMicroelectronics that began with their adoption of Advanced Design System into their design flow," said Jim Tabuchi, marketing and services manager at Agilent EEsof EDA. "ST participated in our Early Access Program and provided valuable guidance to our development team, resulting in a product that meets ST's high standards. I am pleased that our work with Cadence will help improve ST's design flow and fuel their continued growth and success."
