3/13/2003 - OpenTV (NASDAQ and Euronext Amsterdam: OPTV), one of the world's leading interactive television companies, announced that it has signed a five year licensing agreement with Star Choice (TSE: SJR.B/SYSE: SJR), a leading Canadian provider of direct-to-home (DTH) satellite services, to develop interactive television (iTV) services powered by OpenTV technology. The agreement marks OpenTV's 51st network operator win.
This agreement represents an opportunity for Star Choice to increase its subscription base by including interactive services on its next generation platform. The interactive offering is expected to be available in mid-2003 and will utilize OpenTV's Core Middleware and OpenTV Streamer to launch the service as well as to provide an infrastructure to launch additional iTV services in the future.
