3/13/2003 - Kane Computing Ltd can now offer for licensing an Improved Code-Excited Linear Prediction (ICELP) vocoder for speech compression at 8000 bps.
The 8000 bps vocoder, from Spirit Corp., is a proprietary speech compression algorithm based on the well-known CELP model and strongly optimised, ensuring significant improvement of speech quality at low computational complexity.
This algorithm is extremely useful in a wide range of storage capacity and/or bandwidth sensitive applications such as multimedia devices, visual telephony, wireless telephony, secure telephony, and videoconferencing products.
The many features of the 8000 bps ICELP vocoder include; high speech quality (MOS about 4.0), automatic built-in Frame Synchronisation and Comfort Noise Generation (CNG) and directly interfaces with PCM 8 KHz sampled data. The code is re-entrant, supports multithreading and dynamic memory allocation. The vocoder has a very simple application interface and can be easily ported to any DSP or RISC platform.
While claiming extreme cost effectiveness due to its proprietary nature the solution satisfies system requirements comparable with the ITU-T G.729 standard.
The 8000 bps ICELP vocoder is available in the form of object codes for TI's TMS320C54x, C55x (coming soon) and also as a DLL for MS Windows.
About Kane Computing Ltd
KCL has been providing Image Processing, DSP and high performance computing products for use in industry, education and research since 1987. The last few years has seen considerable growth within KCL in the high performance and Digital Signal Processing markets. KCL started life as Sension Advanced Computing, designing, manufacturing and supplying parallel processing products based around the Inmos transputer. In 1995 it became part of Kane International Ltd and subsequently changed its name to Kane Computing. In October 2001 Kane Computing became an independent Company, Kane Computing Ltd. KCL are now regarded as the primary source of fully supported development tools for Texas Instruments series of DSPs in the United Kingdom. KCL provide a whole range of products based around Texas Instrument's TMS320 range of DSP's. This includes starter kits, development systems, application boards and emulators. KCL has a policy of continual improvement and operates its business in accordance with the requirements of ISO9001:2000.
