3/12/2003 - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) announced that HP has chosen to add TI's proven 802.11b technology to its wireless networking options for commercial PC customers. WLAN connections to the desktop allow enterprises to expand their wireless networks, providing cost-advantages when moving employees' offices or enabling businesses to cost-effectively expand their office space without re-wiring.
Future HP commercial PCs will also use TI's 802.11b solution to support the recently announced Cisco Compatible Extensions program for standards-based, Wi-Fi products that provides the enhanced security, management and roaming features that enterprise customers are demanding. With upcoming versions of Cisco Compatible Extensions software, IT managers will be able to offer additional security and infrastructure capabilities, providing an even greater advantage to wireless networks within the enterprise.
"Wi-Fi has changed the way enterprise users think of networking. TI's 802.11b technology in HP's new enterprise PCs will help IT departments better address the computer and wireless networking needs of their entire organization," said Jeff Groudan, vice president of marketing, HP Commercial PCs. "We chose TI's 802.11b solution for the inclusion in our 802.11 program since it met both our performance and Cisco Compatible requirements, including a solid roadmap for future IEEE 802.11 capabilities."
TI's 802.11b technology will provide HP commercial desktops with high performance 802.11b connectivity, enabling greater throughput and increased network range compared with competing Wi-Fi solutions. For IT managers, this enables better user experience and performance within their wireless network.
"The PC space is a key part of our WLAN strategy and this announcement with HP is our first public step in this market space," said Marc Cetto, general manager, TI's Wireless Networking Business Unit. "By offering high performance, full interoperability and cost effective Wi-Fi technology, TI is providing HP with a leading WLAN solution to expand 802.11 offerings on their line of commercial PCs."
