India's Sahara Television Puts Their Trust In Tektronix

3/12/2003 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), the worldwide industry leader in video test, measurement, and monitoring, announced that Sahara Sanchar Nigam, parent company of Sahara TV, has purchased Tektronix video test and measurement instruments for its eight new TV channels and new uplink earth station, located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Sahara Television Network is one of the largest business groups in India and is adding seven more television channels, bringing its total complement of channels to eight. Sahara TV has also taken advantage of the Indian government's recent decision to license private companies to own and operate satellite uplink facilities. A new uplink facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, near Delhi, makes Sahara's previous uplink from Singapore redundant.

Since Sahara TV uses both analog and digital video in its studios, best of class monitoring solutions that support each standard are required. By standardizing on Tektronix instruments, including the 1741A Analog Waveform Monitor and WFM601 Series Standard Definition Digital Waveform Monitor, and SV970 MPEG Stream Analyzer, Sahara TV has the ideal tools to monitor signal quality in post-production, program control, and throughout the facility.

To provide complete flexibility within their uplink earth station, Sahara TV will also use the Tektronix TG700 Signal Generator, a modular platform designed to provide test signals in a variety of analog and digital formats.

"Sahara TV consistently strives to deliver the highest quality programming to our viewers," said R.S. Chauhan, Vice President, Engineering & Operations, Sahara TV. "To monitor and ensure our signal quality, we selected Tektronix for their outstanding technical support and the unmatched reliability of their test and measurement solutions."

"Viewers don't understand that excess jitter, bad colorimetry or timing errors are responsible for poor signal quality - they just know that it's time to change the channel to find programming that meets their viewing expectations," said Todd Biddle, General Manager, Video Product Line, Tektronix. "By using Tektronix' video test and measurement tools, broadcasters can be confident that they can provide the quality of signal their viewers desire."
