3/6/2003 - Magma Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, announced that NEC Micro Systems, Ltd. has successfully established a design methodology based on Magma technology and completed the certification process to become Magma's first MagmaTies design center in Japan. NEC Micro Systems has successfully completed a number of chips and is currently working on multiple system LSI designs for major system manufacturers.
NEC Micro Systems and Magma are developing and implementing a system-on-chip (SoC) design platform for nanometer designs. In this competitive market, designers need the fastest path to convert their ideas into reality. This design platform will provide the necessary qualified libraries and IPs integrated into the tools for "The Fastest Path from RTL to Silicon"TM, targeted toward high-volume manufacturing processes along with the segment-specific design expertise. This unique concept has already provided impressive results at NEC Micro Systems, demonstrating proven success.
"The recent system LSI design for mobile application, which had about 4 million gates with a multiple-clocks scheme, took only 12 days from netlist to tape-out with Blast Fusion and Blast Noise," said Mr. Junichi Oomori, group manager of 1st Design Systems Development Group, Advanced LSI Division at NEC Micro Systems. "To provide our excellent solutions to our customers for their timing designs and signal integrities on large System LSI designs with multimillion gates and reducing turnaround time (TAT) on complex chip design continuously, we look forward to best use of advanced technology through this partnership with Magma."
"NEC Micro Systems employs many designers to develop high-performance, complex, multimillion-gate System LSIs and we're pleased to have them as a MagmaTies partner," said Mehrdad Shahabi, president of Magma Design Automation Co., Ltd. "The fact they are implementing designs against strict deadlines and tough specifications is a perfect example of NEC Microsystems' design abilities and what can be achieved with Magma's technology."
Through the MagmaTies program, Magma and its partners work together to promote interoperability between Magma's systems and other EDA software and to develop proven methodologies for getting complex designs to silicon quickly and efficiently. The MagmaTies Design Center Certification program provides members access to Magma solutions, dedicated technical support and sales opportunity referrals. To become a certified member, companies must excel in logic or physical design and be able to provide positive customer references. Also, prospects must complete technical seminars and demonstrate proficiency in using Magma tools.
With access to Magma software and training, certified Magma design centers can offer their customers comprehensive RTL-to-GDSII design capabilities. MagmaTies is open to companies that offer ASIC and semiconductor foundry services, complementary EDA software, design automation libraries, reusable designs and intellectual property (IP), and design services. About Magma Design Automation
Magma software is used to design fast, multimillion-gate integrated circuits, providing "The Fastest Path from RTL to Silicon"TM, to enable chip designers to reduce the time required to produce complex ICs. Magma's products for prototyping, synthesis, and place & route provide a single executable for RTL-to-GDSII chip design. The company's Blast FusionTM, Blast Fusion APXTM, Blast PlanTM, Blast NoiseTM andBlast RTLTM products utilize Magma's patented FixedTimingTM methodology and single data model architecture to reduce the timing-closure iterations often required between the logic and physical processes in conventional IC design flows.
Magma maintains headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., as well as facilities in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, Calif.; Boston, Mass.; Durham, N.C.; Laurys Station, Pa.; Austin and Dallas, Texas; Newcastle, Wash.; and in Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The company's stock trades on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol LAVA. Visit Magma Design Automation on the Web at www.magma-da.com.
