3/6/2003 - Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: CY) announced that it has named W. Steve Albrecht to its board of directors. Albrecht, the current associate dean for the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University (BYU), is expected to bring his in-depth accounting and financial expertise to Cypress's board.
“With 31 years of accounting experience, Steve Albrecht is a recognized leader in his field,” said Cypress President and CEO T.J. Rodgers. “With accounting standards in a state of change, Steve will help Cypress to keep abreast of trends and continue to provide maximum value to our shareholders.”
Albrecht’s career includes tours of duty at several major universities, including Brigham Young University, Stanford University, University of Illinois, and the University of Wisconsin. Albrecht has published over 80 articles in professional journals and authored or co-authored 18 books or monographs.
Albrecht has received numerous awards during his career. In 1997 and 2002, he was chosen as one of “The 100 Most Influential Accounting Professionals” in the U.S. by Accounting Today magazine. He also received the BYU Outstanding Researcher Award, and was recognized as part of Utah’s Centennial Celebration as one of the 131 Utah citizens who have made outstanding contributions or brought unusual recognition to the state.
Candidates for the Cypress Board of Directors must meet specific criteria. The company requires experience as the CEO of a major technology company, direct experience managing a semiconductor firm or a customer company, or direct experience and extensive research in accounting. The other members of the Cypress board of directors are Eric Benhamou, chairman and CEO of 3Com; Fred Bialek, one of the five founders of National Semiconductor; John Lewis, chairman and former CEO of Amdahl Corp.; Alan Shugart, co-founder and CEO of Shugart Associates; James R. Long, chairman and former CEO of Nortel Networks; and T.J. Rodgers.
