2/25/2003 - Performance Technologies (Nasdaq NM: PTIX) introduced the Redundant Host Product Line, featuring the industry's fastest, standards-based failover architecture for High Availability (HA), "always-on" embedded systems. Targeted to mission critical military and time-sensitive communications applications, the intelligent and ultra fast Redundant Host architecture enables equipment developers to build the highest available systems by shortening failover time from seconds to single digit milliseconds.
Performance Technologies' Redundant Host products are comprised of the new ZiatechTM Redundant Host Software Development Kit (RHSDK), the ZT 5524e Single Board Computer and the ZT 5085e Platform. These are the first products to be based on the Redundant Host aspect of the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG®) 2.12 standard.
The unrivaled availability of Performance Technologies' Redundant Host products makes it a perfect solution for organizations running time-sensitive applications, such as billing and missile testing, that allow no room for failure. Prior clustering failover capabilities could typically take seconds to activate. The Redundant Host products immediately take action to failover a system in a matter of single digit milliseconds. The quickness of this methodology is transparent to the users, thus providing virtually zero downtime.
"When dealing with mission and business critical applications, five nines failover capabilities aren't good enough. More and more industry applications require availability close to 100 percent, and companies running these applications are not finding a suitable, standards-based HA architecture," said Eric Gulliksen, Embedded Hardware Group manager, Venture Development Corporation. "Performance Technologies' Redundant Host products should provide one of the fastest, most capable products on the market to solve these critical HA needs."
At a recent industry trade show, Dr. Jerry Krasner, VP of Embedded Market Forecasters (www.embedded-forecast.com), said, "Our market research clearly shows that total cost of ownership will be a determining factor in vendor selection and technology utilization." Equipment developers sensitive to customers' total cost of ownership needs will gain an advantage by developing around the Redundant Host products. This architecture drastically reduces service interruptions, thereby minimizing operating expenses and ultimately reducing total cost of ownership for the end user. The Redundant Host products also lower costs for equipment developers by eliminating the need for redundancy of certain expensive chassis elements.
"Performance Technologies has a long history of providing HA products, and now we're offering the first standards-based architecture in the industry designed for always-on applications," said Tony Romero, product manager for Performance Technologies. "The Redundant Host Product Line offers the most cost-effective way to configure system designs with intelligent failover features, ultimately reducing the total cost of ownership for the end user."
Performance Technologies' Redundant Host products improve upon the company's revolutionary Redundant System Slot HA architecture by offering support for both CompactPCI® and PICMG 2.16. For PICMG 2.16-based designs, the Redundant Host products simplify failover design and reduce latency. In the coming months, the company plans on integrating Redundant Host software into its NexusWareTM Linux-based development and operating environment. The Redundant Host Product Line is available immediately with support for both Linux and VxWorks offerings.
