VMETRO Introduces New Family of Networked Bus Analyzers

2/24/2003 - VMETRO (Houston, TX / Oslo, Norway) launched a revolutionary new family of Networked Bus Analyzers for PCI, PMC and CompactPCI architectures with full PCI-X support.

Designed for debugging, testing and validating next-generation platforms, the Vanguard products offer a State Analyzer, Exerciser, Statistics Engine, Protocol Checker and Compliance Checker.

The VMETRO Vanguard Networked Bus Analyzers are operated through Ethernet or USB from a PC with Windows running VMETRO’s popular software BusView for Windows. The addition of an Ethernet interface to a dedicated bus analyzer is an industry first and will transform the way system buses are debugged. Engineers will now have the convenience of accessing multiple bus analyzers on the network.

The Vanguard product range is based on a powerful reconfigurable hardware architecture that allows a common module to be used on multiple platforms and provides for field upgrades, without sacrificing the ability to use all functions concurrently and independently. This protects a customer’s investment as additional functionalities can easily be added at a later stage.

The State Analyzer includes the industry’s deepest Trace Memory at 2M Samples, whereby each sample comprises 256-bits of information. Another first for the Vanguard is hardware assisted demultiplexing of 64-bit PCI-X/PCI bus traffic. This greatly simplifies triggering, and coupled with the ability to collapse and expand the detail level of the trace, greatly enhances trace readability and productivity.

The Vanguard product offers support for 0 to 133MHz PCI and PCI-X protocols in 3.3V and 5V signaling environments, all in one package.

The product is offered with an Exerciser that fully supports Master/Target and Requester/Completer functions. A Compliance Checker is also available to automatically verify compliance with the PCI and PCI-X standards.

The Statistics Engine generates pre-programmed Real-Time statistics for Bus Utilization, Transfer Rate, Command Distribution, Burst Length Distribution, Arbiter Latency and others. In addition, the customer has the flexibility to define custom statistics.

All of these features make the Vanguard product the ultimate tool for hardware, software and system analysis. The Vanguard is the culmination of VMETRO’s 18 years of design experience in providing engineers with the most effective and powerful tool for bus-based development on the market.

“We are very proud of what we have been able to achieve with the design of the Vanguard Product Range” says Thomas Nygaard, VMETRO’s Chief Technology Officer. “We feel certain that our customers will find that our non-compromising design effort with regard to functionality, will allow them to get the job done on time and under budget.”

The Vanguard PCI-X/PCI, PMC and CompactPCI products are available 4 weeks ARO.
