2/24/2003 - With the PC/104plus board "MICROSPACE MSMG1SEN" DIGITAL-LOGIC AG, is offering a universal applicable embedded computer based on a passive cooled 300 MHz Geode GX1 processor. The state-of-the-art board is remarkable for its optimum cost/performance ratio and offers all common standard PC interfaces including audio, IEEE1394 and LAN. Another advantage of the board is its flexible expandable memory. The main memory can be fitted individually with SODIMM components from 16 MB to 256 MB SDRAM. For the optional assembling with solid-state memories the PC/104plus board is equipped with a CompactFlash socket.
The standard version of the MICROSPACE MSMG1SEN includes interfaces for PS/2 keyboard and mouse, hard disk, floppy disk, printer, and RS232 and RS485 ports at COM1 and COM2. Two USB (Universal Serial Bus) interfaces, a 100/10Base-T LAN interface (82551ER) and two Firewire ports (IEEE1394) are also integrated. The embedded PC uses the integrated CRT video controller of the Geode processor and is able to control a VGA monitor. Further technical features are a watchdog, advanced APM and ACPI power-management functions, the connection of an external RTC battery, 1k EEPROM, and AC97 compatible audio functions.
The embedded computer runs under Windows 98/2000/XP/CE/NT and other common operating systems, such as Linux, QNX and RTXDOS. Designed for low power consumption, the MSMG1SEN typically consumes between 500mA and 1500mA and operates within the standard temperature range of –25°C to +70°C. If desired, the PC/104plus board is also available for the extended temperature range of –40°C to +85°C. The embedded computer is ideally suited for applications in the fields of navigation, telecommunications, computer periphery, medical and measurement technologies, the aerospace industry, automotive electronics and in Internet terminals.
Technical details about the Geode GX1 processor
The highly integrated Geode GX1 processor from National Semiconductor includes a x86 porcessor core, display controller with 2D graphics accellerator, main memory and a PCI bus host controller. It is the first of its kind to be produced on National’s 0.18 micron process, improving the speed while lowering power dissipation. The typical power consumption of the CPU varies between 0.8W to 2.4W. Among these low-power features and the extensive functionality the Geode provides two further advantages: It requires no additional chip set and runs with standard RAMs.
