2/21/2003 - Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Test Limited (ASET) (Nasdaq: ASTSF), the world's largest semiconductor packaging and test firm, has purchased multiple Agilent 93000 SOC Series model P800 and C400e test systems. The purchase expands ASET's test capacity for a wide range of high-speed digital, wireless and mixed-signal devices, found in computing, networking and consumer electronics.
According to recent research from Taiwan's Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center(1), Taiwan's packaging and testing production volume is expected to grow 20 percent in 2003. ASET is increasing its capital equipment expenditures by 40 percent in 2003 to $500 million in order to capitalize on the rising demand forecasted for outsourced packaging and test services. With the Agilent 93000, ASET gains broad application coverage and the performance necessary to test today's leading-edge devices. The Agilent 93000's upgradeability and compatibility also ensures the application coverage for future technologies while protecting current investments. There are currently more than 100 of these test systems installed in Taiwan.
"The economic outlook for the semiconductor industry is becoming more positive, calling for prudent capital investment to strengthen our test capabilities," said Raymond Lo, president of ASET. "With the Agilent 93000's market-leading performance, versatility and upgradeability, we are confident we have the best long-term answer for testing our customers' devices, ranging from wireless, high-speed digital and mixed-signal applications -- all in a single scalable platform for today and the future."
"Agilent is glad to support ASET in reducing time to volume and overall time to market," said Tom Newsom, vice president and general manager of Agilent's SOC Business Unit. "Our teams will work closely with ASET, our fabless customers and IDM customers to support their outsourcing, making sure that the whole supply chain is successful. With the Agilent 93000 SOC Series, our SCM customers are able to expand their application coverage to include ultra high-speed digital data rates up to 10 Gb/s, the broadest range of mixed-signal and RF capabilities available in an ATE platform today."
To ensure ASET's ongoing success using the 93000, Agilent is partnering with ASET to establish a technical service center at the company's Taiwan packaging and test facility. Members of Agilent's support team are working in close collaboration with ASET test engineers to provide real-time professional support, thereby minimizing cost of test and reducing time to volume and overall time to market for ASET's wide range of customers.
