2/20/2003 - 3G LAB, a mobile interface company, and OSE Systems, the worldwide leader in real-time operating system (RTOS) technology for the wireless market, announced the immediate availability of the Trigenix and OSE RTOS Reference Platform. The integration provides engineers with a pre-validated software solution based on core ARM architectures. It enables rapid development of mobile phones with user interfaces that can be fully branded and themed to meet operator market needs.
Shortlisted for the “Best Wireless Application” Developer award by the GSM Association, 3G LAB recently launched its Trigenix 2.0 suite of mobile interface technology. Trigenix delivers completely branded and customized user experiences that make it easy for consumers to connect to operator data services. OSE’s RTOS provides a powerful yet highly efficient platform that optimizes the utilization of hardware resources.
3G LAB and OSE will be show casing two designs from 3G LAB’s portfolio of Trigenix interfaces, “Kiss Kiss” and “Metal”. (OSE Stand Hall 2, Stand G3) They were designed on a reference platform for the ARM CPU-based Cogent Maverick board and demonstrate the advanced multimedia capabilities that are possible using a joint Trigenix and OSE RTOS mobile device. 3G LAB will be showing their motor cruiser, the Jacaranda Bleu. It will be moored on the Jetee Albert Edouard throughout the 3GSM World Congress. “Consumers are increasingly demanding mobile phones with advanced multimedia capabilities,” said Anders Flodin, Director of Strategic Alliances at OSE Systems.
“At the same time, network operators are looking to bring to market high quality, own-branded devices that enable the delivery of advanced services. The pre-integration of 3G LAB’s Trigenix mobile interface software and OSE’s RTOS allow handset manufacturers to create fast, efficient and highly-customized mobile phones that drive data revenue growth.”
“Operators are now focusing very strongly on finding ways of encouraging users to take up the services and applications that they have developed over the last year,” said Steve Ives, CEO of 3G LAB. “There is a growing consensus that the best way to achieve this goal is by providing a highly customized, graphical interface on high performance handsets that the operator can brand. The Trigenix/RTOS Reference Platform makes this concept a reality.”
Trigenix 2.0 is centered around the use, design and over-the-air delivery of graphics, sound and animation packages called Trigs. The Trig Player is a low footprint application that resides on the handset and can be installed and updated over the air. It supports the latest user interface (UI) graphics as they are based on standard XSL and XML Web technologies, making production cost efficient.
OSE Systems’ complete and extended RTOS solutions provide extended capabilities for 2.5G and 3G handsets, including:
Applications can be designed to work with Bluetooth, Java and can include sophisticated graphics and end user applications, such as a Web browser or email client. The OSE Wireless Platform supports all ARM architectures and a majority of DSP architectures, including multi-core designs.
