2/20/2003 - Promise Technology, Inc., the originator and leading supplier of ATA RAID data protection and storage solutions, announced that it has signed Avnet Applied Computing as part of Promise's industrial distribution channel program. Avnet Applied Computing is a $1.68 billion operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) that focuses on the embedded and white box computing markets. Through this partnership, Avnet Applied Computing will promote Promise's complete line of ATA, Serial ATA, and ATA RAID storage controller and subsystem solutions to OEMs and system integrators for embedded and white box systems.
"By adding Promise's ATA RAID controllers to our line card, Avnet will be able to meet the demand for RAID-driven storage arrays in embedded applications that couldn't afford the speed or redundancy advantages of RAID before now; particularly with the Serial ATA drives currently being rolled out by our hard disk drive suppliers," said Mike Gaeta, vice president of storage for Avnet Applied Computing. "Today's embedded device manufacturers and white box system integrators are searching for cost-effective storage technology with higher data access performance. Avnet Applied Computing can now offer complete storage solutions to its customers, based on Promise RAID controllers and the latest Serial ATA hard disk drives from Seagate, Fujitsu, Western Digital, and Hitachi Global Storage Technologies."
"Cost-effective, high-performance storage technology offers a technology cornerstone for today's OEMs and system integrators searching for ways to differentiate their products. In order to better reach these customers, we were seeking a well-established distributor that could effectively promote our industry-leading ATA RAID controller and solution subsystems to OEMs and system integrators," said Ben Barnes, senior director of sales and support for Promise Technology, Inc. "Avnet Applied Computing is a leader in the industrial channel distribution and we anticipate our agreement will support continued success and significant expansion of our industrial, system integrator and second-tier OEM customers."
