2/19/2003 - MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, and Solid Information Technology Corp., the leading distributed data management solutions provider, announced that the Solid FlowEngine platform has been validated on and converted into a product for the MontaVista Linux® operating system and development environment.
A carrier-class distributed data management platform with patented database synchronization technology, Solid FlowEngine can be easily embedded in unattended devices and applications, and offers a compelling low total cost of ownership (TCO).
Solid FlowEngine has been ported to, validated on, and converted into a product for two MontaVista Linux offerings: the MontaVista Linux Professional Edition and the Carrier Grade Edition. The combined solutions support numerous applications including network equipment and management devices, automotive telematics, smart consumer devices, storage management, and global positioning applications.

“Developers are searching for high performance data management platform on which to build carrier grade applications,” said Malcolm Colton, vice president of marketing, Solid. “Our partnership with MontaVista Software allows our mutual customers to take full advantage of the proven reliability and interoperability of Solid FlowEngine with MontaVista Linux. The combined OS and distributed data solution will accelerate and simplify their development efforts, getting them to market faster and at a lower cost.”
MontaVista Linux Professional Edition is an industry-leading comprehensive embedded operating system and cross-development environment. It provides a common source and binary platform across a broad range of processor architectures. The Professional Edition offers real-time functionality, multiprocessing, and multithreading with extensive bundled software components including rich networking.
MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition enhances standard Linux with additional high-reliability and availability features for deployment in carrier-grade environments and is designed specifically for the demanding applications deployed in telecommunications, data communications, and other industries that require extremely high levels of service availability.
The two companies will also be working together to validate the Solid FlowEngine platform on the MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition, introduced last month at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
“Solid and MontaVista Software are providing the premier embedded development system for a broad spectrum of products ranging from smart devices to sophisticated communication infrastructure products,” said Sheila Baker, vice president, marketing, MontaVista Software. “Our partnership helps equipment manufacturers worldwide bring their products to market much faster while expanding the scalability of their offering.”
About Solid FlowEngine
Solid FlowEngine is a carrier-class distributed data management platform made up of two tightly coupled components: an embeddable, lightweight database management system and a patented database synchronization technology. This optimized combination creates an easy-to-manage platform that can be used to move information through the infrastructure of a distributed enterprise, or to and from devices. Solid FlowEngine lets users create synchronized replica databases in order to provide a high degree of robustness and scalability to delegate computing autonomy or to support loosely connected users and devices. Designed so that it can be easily embedded in unattended devices and applications, Solid FlowEngine can be concealed inside an application, delivering a compelling low total cost of ownership (TCO).
MontaVista Linux Professional Edition and MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition are available now as product subscriptions through MontaVista Software and its worldwide distribution channels. MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition will be available in March 2003. MontaVista Linux product subscriptions provide developer teams with the MontaVista Linux kernel, deployment components, utilities, development tools, software updates, and access to the MontaVista Zone and comprehensive technical support.
