2/19/2003 - Long recognized as the leading supplier of Voice over IP (VoIP) silicon and software solutions for voice gateways, integrated access devices and enterprise IP phones, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) is expanding its offerings to include an enhanced voice software solution for the wireless infrastructure market. This enhanced voice software offering facilitates the development of wireless media gateways, and decreases time to market for wireless infrastructure original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
With the availability of TI´s productized Telogy SoftwareTM framework on the TMS320C64xTM digital signal processor (DSP), TI is providing wireless infrastructure OEMs the industry´s most comprehensive, field-tested software to enable the transmission of packet based wireless and converged networks. With this approach, OEMs can benefit from reduced development time, yet continue to differentiate their offerings by adding their own intellectual property, and that of their development partners, into their solutions. Customers will have access to the Telogy Software framework, while still controlling the functions and feature sets on the DSP in order to choose from a variety of Telogy Software functional components or add external software components.
"The wireless infrastructure market is extremely important to TI and from a voice perspective, it is entering a stage of dramatically increasing features and complexity," said Brian Glinsman, director of Infrastructure Solutions in TI's Broadband Communications Group. "By making our field-tested Telogy Software framework available on a platform optimized for wireless infrastructure applications, we're providing a rapid and powerful way for wireless OEMs to incorporate standards-based voice software into their solutions, while still retaining the ability to differentiate their products."
The complete Telogy Software framework for wireless infrastructure applications includes the following product features:
TI´s planned roadmap for the Telogy Software framework will also have product features with requirements to meet the needs of 3G Wireless, UMTS and CDMA2000 systems, such as:
To support faster and broader deployment of innovative wireless infrastructure voice applications, TI´s productized Telogy Software framework on the C64x device has been designed so that third parties can develop additional eXpressDSPTM-compliant application modules to complement the framework, thereby providing added value. TI partner, Dilithium Networks, recently announced their collaboration with TI to provide advanced voice/video transcoding solutions, enabling seamless, real-time multimedia communications between circuit, packet and wireless networks. Wireless infrastructure OEMs can benefit by making voice and video communications ubiquitously available to end-users.
With the announcement of TI´s enhanced voice software solution for wireless OEMs, and the recently announced UMTS programmable chipset that fundamentally changes 3G channel card design enabling cellular infrastructure manufacturers to create differentiated channel cards for 3G base stations with per-channel cost reductions of up to 50 percent (see www.ti.com/tci1xnr_wi), TI further demonstrates its commitment to providing optimized solutions for the wireless infrastructure market.
Texas Instruments Broadband Solutions
For OEMs developing broadband communications solutions, TI´s advanced signal processing-based silicon and software platforms deliver the optimal performance, lower power consumption, and system-level integration required to rapidly deploy differentiated next-generation products for cable modems, digital subscriber line (xDSL) modems, integrated access devices (IADs), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) gateways, carrier infrastructure, and home and office wireless networking.
