2/19/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and Bytemobile Inc. announced a collaboration to ensure that Agilent's wireless data operation support systems (OSS) solutions will interoperate with Bytemobile's Macara optimization service node (OSN), thereby saving wireless service providers from costly and time-consuming integration.
Bytemobile's Macara OSN optimizes the delivery of applications and content over wireless IP data networks, while improving overall network utilization. Through advanced data reduction and protocol acceleration technologies, data users experience enriched application performance of e-mail and Web browsing, including download speeds that approach LAN-like speeds. The Macara OSN also offers a set of advanced subscriber services including enterprise virtualization, network address management and enhanced billing and reporting, which enable increased ARPU.
Agilent's Wireless OSS solutions allow service providers to ensure the overall performance of wireless IP services and to quickly determine and resolve any potential service quality issues.
"Service providers are widely adopting data optimization and the associated network elements and protocols, and they need to know that their OSS solutions will integrate easily into this new environment," said Giorgio Dina, vice president and general manager of Agilent's OSS business. "Bytemobile has displayed significant traction in the network optimization space. Our collaboration supports service providers' drive for data adoption with speedy, robust and managed data traffic."
"To increase profitability from data services, wireless service providers must deploy integrated management and optimization solutions that allow for deployment of new services while maintaining existing SLAs," said Adrian Hall, Bytemobile's vice president of business development. "The collaboration between the two companies will ensure that service providers can enforce SLAs and deliver better service to their subscribers while maintaining greater operational control."
Bytemobile delivers on the promise of mobile data by enabling the way people really want to work and play in the wireless world. Bytemobile's end-to-end solution-a unique suite of data reduction, acceleration and network connectivity technologies and services combined with IP packet networking, mobile cellular, applications and client device expertise-allows mobile operators and enterprises to significantly improve the user experience and security of current and future wireless data networks. This facilitates market development for both service providers and enterprises and ensures returns on existing and future mobile infrastructure investments are maximized.
Announced customers include Nextel Communications, Orange UK, Sprint, T-Mobile UK, and Vodafone UK. The company is headquartered in Mountain View, California and has offices in East Sussex, England and Tokyo, Japan.
