iAnywhere Solutions, NEC Partner to Stimulate Mobile and Remote Solutions in Japanese

2/13/2003 - iAnywhere Solutions announced an agreement with NEC Corporation to stimulate the development of mobile, wireless and remote database-powered solutions in Japan. As part of this relationship, NEC will resell SQL Anywhere® Studio, the iAnywhere SolutionsTM market-leading mobile data management and enterprise synchronization solution. The companies will also work together to develop new enterprise applications that extend business critical information from a variety of data sources – including databases from IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and Sybase – to PCs, laptops and mobile devices.

“With the rapid growth of broadband and mobile solutions, businesses are demanding much closer integration of mobile applications with legacy systems to achieve better quality services for customers, increased operational efficiency, and greater information sharing within organizations,” said Koichi Hadano, general manager, Middle Software Division, NEC Corporation. “NEC selected SQL Anywhere Studio because of its open architecture, reliability and ease-of-use, enabling companies to effectively deploy mobile enterprise solutions that leverage existing backend data sources.”

The agreement between iAnywhere Solutions and NEC encompasses joint sales and marketing initiatives, product development and customer support. The specifics of the relationship include:

  • Embedding SQL Anywhere Studio – NEC will embed and resell SQL Anywhere Studio as part of an OEM relationship. SQL Anywhere Studio, the iAnywhere Solutions market-leading data management and enterprise synchronization solution, is immediately available through NEC in Japan.
  • Developing New Solutions – iAnywhere Solutions and NEC will develop new mobile, wireless and remote enterprise applications that leverage SQL Anywhere Studio and other iAnywhere Solutions products. These applications will target a number of industries including retail, financial services, field services and sales force automation. NEC expects to begin delivering these “iBestSolutions for Broadband and Mobile” in the spring of 2003. In addition, subsidiary NEC Infrontia Corporation plans to deliver new solutions for the energy industry that leverage SQL Anywhere Studio and NEC mobile devices, building on the company’s existing relationship with iAnywhere Solutions.
  • Providing Customer Support – The companies will jointly provide support for customers that deploy SQL Anywhere Studio-powered applications. NEC will also open the “NEC iAnywhere Solutions Response Center” for product certification and interoperability testing.
  • Collaborating on Sales and Marketing Activities – iAnywhere Solutions and NEC will work together on joint selling opportunities and marketing programs such as seminars and trade shows.
