2/5/2003 - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) introduced the LM80, a revolutionary tool for construction layout. Designed to make the process more productive, accurate and reliable, the Trimble LM80 Layout Manager is a pocket-sized personal computer featuring the first data collection software created specifically for construction layout.
The LM80 is designed for use by concrete and general construction contractors to guide them in the layout of points on the job site. In addition to general layout and positioning tasks, the LM80 includes a fully integrated Windows CE version of the leading Construction Master® Pro calculator from Calculated Industries, Inc. It can be used for standard field calculations, materials calculations and job site management. Blueprint dimensions can be entered directly into the LM80, allowing contractors to easily check the blueprint before layout and automatically compute dimensions to reduce errors and rework.
The LM80 can be connected to the Trimble TS305 and TS315 Construction Total Stations, or used in conjunction with the Trimble LaserStation® product line including the LS920 and LS920 3D, as well as alignment and tape methods. When coupled with the TS305 or TS315, the LM80 provides the most significant gains in productivity, accuracy and reliability. And, thanks to its common user interface and ease of use, the LM80 makes the total station as easy to use as a transit and tape.
"The LM80 is the first product to offer the convenience of being able to carry, manage, and layout a job site blueprint, no matter what method or instrumentation is being used," said Pat Bohle, division vice president of sales and marketing for Trimble's Construction Instruments Division. "The convenience of the LM80 combined with the power of a common user interface, construction-specific software, and the built-in Construction Master Pro Calculator make the LM80 a one-of-a-kind tool that will change the way construction layout is performed."
By allowing users to easily perform layout tasks on their own, the LM80 reduces reliance on surveyors, thus saving time and cutting costs. The same point can even be laid out repeatedly, if necessary, without the usual re-do fee. When used with a construction total station, the LM80 can also be used for generating as-built records.
Based on Windows CE technology, the LM80 can support an almost endless variety of application software to handle different tasks. Its built-in functions include e-mail and Microsoft Office File Readers.
Another major advantage of LM80 is that it can organize and standardize all layout activity for all layout equipment currently in use, including laser stations, total stations or transit and tape. This feature results in savings in training and error-correction expenses as well as increased independence-- if one instrument is unavailable, users can quickly and easily swap out for another.
The Windows CE version of Construction Master Pro calculator from Calculated Industries, Inc. offers all the accuracy and productivity-boosting features of the original: dimensional math and conversions, fractions, instant area and volume, easy stair and rafter calculations, and much more. It's the most complete builder's calculator on the market.
Trimble's new LM80 is available now through Trimble's Construction Instruments Division dealer network.
