2/4/2003 - Manor AG, the leading Swiss Retail Chain, is using IONA's Orbix® Application Server PlatformTM (ASP) to power its newly launched online sales channel. Manor AG's new online sales channel works as an integrated inventory, order fulfillment, and provisioning system to support the Swiss retail chains Internet store, partners, and suppliers. Building this new online sales channel required the integration of Manor AG's OpenVMS based warehouse management systems with its Microsoft® .NET Web interfaces, and other legacy business systems.
IONA's Orbix ASP provides a service-oriented deployment infrastructure that makes Web services, Java 2, Enterprise EditionTM (J2EETM), and Microsoft .NET environments transparently interoperable. IONA's Orbix ASP has enabled Manor AG to overcome it application and middleware compatibility challenges and facilitate data exchange between these systems using Web services. Today, Manor AG's new online sales channel uses Web services to support 'real-time' inventory management and order fulfilment with third-party supplier systems and all transactions executed at its Internet store.
"Achieving this level of integration with traditional approaches and vendor solutions would have been costly and time consuming," said Urs Schmid, Head Technologies & Methods, Manor. "With IONA's Orbix Application Server Platform we used one product for the entire project with seamless integration between J2EE and .NET environments via Web services. We have successfully initiated a new online sales channel and adopted our business to this model with a limited outlay of time and resources and high ROI expectations."
"Manor's innovative adoption of Web services is indicative of the first-step approaches being undertaken by organizations today with trusted business partners," said Barry Morris, CEO, IONA. "Driven by a need to future proof technology investments in a cautious spending environment many organizations are realizing the benefits of a standards-based approach to integration. IONA understands this and continues to be a pioneer of standards in the industry to deliver improved levels of ROI for our customers."
IONA's Alliance Partner, Itheca Solutions, was selected by Manor AG for the design and implementation of the platform using Orbix ASP, J2EETM Technology Edition.
