Manage Anywhere Studio 5 Simplifies OS Migration and Strengthens Mobile Security

2/4/2003 - iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), introduced Manage Anywhere StudioTM 5, providing a full lifecycle management solution for enterprise applications and hardware including PCs, laptops and mobile devices. This new version introduces new OS migration capabilities, enhanced mobile security and new specialized software modules – enabling companies to select just the features they require today and easily add new functionality in the future.

Manage Anywhere Studio 5 features targeted software modules to address specific business needs including asset management, live support, mobile and remote software deployment and OS migration. The new OS migration capabilities enable IT organizations to quickly and efficiently migrate an entire organization to a new operating system. This version also incorporates a number of new mobile security features such as enforcement of password settings, the ability to modify owner information and a feature called “Zap It” that acts as a “poison pill” to delete all sensitive information from a PocketPC device that has been lost or stolen.

“Mobile and wireless solutions can dramatically boost employee efficiency and productivity. But they are complex and require significant oversight throughout their life cycle. Management capabilities such as those in iAnywhere Solutions Manage Anywhere Studio are an important means for companies to optimize the performance and control the costs of mobile and wireless solutions so they can achieve maximum return on their investments,” said Warren Wilson, practice director at Summit Strategies.

“We are especially impressed by the new OS migration module in Manage Anywhere Studio 5,” said Scott McGillivray, senior network engineer at PlaceWare. “This new capability will greatly speed and simplify the migration process as we move to Windows XP. iAnywhere Solutions continues to stay a step ahead of the competition.”

“Corporate IT organizations face two major issues today, the need to do more work with fewer resources and the challenge of maintaining corporate security,” said Rob Veitch, director of business development at iAnywhere Solutions. “Manage Anywhere Studio enables a centralized IT department to provide fast, effective and secure support throughout an organization – from the corporate headquarters to home-based employees.”

Manage Anywhere Studio 5 Overview
In addition to mobile security enhancements, the new version of Manage Anywhere Studio offers four distinct software modules as described below. The product will become available at the end of February 2003 and iAnywhere Solutions will host a Webcast on February 11 to discuss the new features in greater detail. Interested parties can register for the Webcast at www.ianywhere.com/manage_anywhere.

  • Migration Manager – OS Migration: Facilitates the distribution and installation of new operating systems for PCs and laptops. Assists with a wide variety of OS migration projects, including Windows XP, enabling IT to complete the upgrade from a remote location saving time and money for both the IT organization and the corporate employees.
  • Discovery Manager – Asset Tracking: Enables tracking throughout an organization including hardware and software inventory, system configuration inventory, software licenses and software application usage. Helps IT control costs through more efficient allocation of software licenses and more accurate records of software and hardware deployments.
  • Support Manager – Live Support: Offers Web-based help desk support services for PCs, laptops and handheld devices. Reduces the number and duration of help desk calls by enabling IT to troubleshoot systems from any location.
  • Systems Manager – Software Deployment: Adds mobile and remote software deployment capabilities to Discovery Manager and Support Manager to provide a full suite of management capabilities. Centralized software deployment replaces the need for remote workers to ship computers back to headquarters for updates or the shipment of software CDs across the country.
