Broadcom’s BCM6345 Chip Used in Sumitomo Electric’s Latest ADSL Customer Premises Equipment

2/4/2003 - Sumitomo Electric Networks introduced the ADSL Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) based on the Broadcom® BCM6345 single-chip, high-performance ADSL CPE router solution. The BCM6345 has been chosen for Sumitomo Electric Networks’ next-generation MegaBit Gear TE46xxC ADSL CPE series, which is currently in full production and shipping to ADSL subscribers.

“With the ADSL market in Japan continuing to grow, BCM6345-based CPE solutions raise the level of Annex C performance and provide a low-risk platform for Sumitomo Electric Networks’ products to support enhanced value added services like Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IEEE 802.11-based wireless LANs,” said Yutaka Wada, General Manager, Development Group, Sumitomo Electric Networks, Inc. “The TE46xxC family of products based on Broadcom’s system level solution will enable Sumitomo Electric Networks to continue as one of the leading ADSL CPE providers in Japan.”

“Broadcom is honored that the BCM6345 CPE solution was selected by Sumitomo Electric Networks for its latest ADSL CPE solutions as the market completes the transition to 12 Megabit per second (Mbps) services and looks forward to 24 Megabit per second (Mbps) services, VoIP and more in 2003,” said John O’Neill, Director of Marketing for Broadcom’s Broadband Communications Business Unit. “By leveraging Broadcom’s market-leading, feature-rich solutions in multi-port Ethernet, VoIP and 802.11 wireless LANs, Sumitomo Electric Networks is in an enviable position to offer customers leading-edge ADSL solutions supporting enhanced features and services.”

The BCM6345 integrates all ADSL modem functionality, along with networking elements and expansion capability, to enable the distribution of broadband content to and throughout the home. The industry’s first single-chip ADSL CPE solution, the BCM6345 combines with Broadcom’s BladeRunnerTM high-density, low power chipset for central office applications to make a highly compelling end-to-end ADSL solution.

The BCM6345 supports ADSL for the Annex A, B, and C markets. With unmatched transciever performance and interoperability, a high-performance MIPS32TM core and integrated peripherals, such as 10/100 Ethernet MAC/PHY, USB 1.1 and PCMCIA, the BCM6345 enables equipment vendors to deploy cost-effective ADSL CPE solutions to meet the needs of the worldwide ADSL market.
