12/24/2003 - Actel Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTL) announced that EDN has placed the company's high-density, space-optimized RTAX-S family of field-programmable gate array (FPGA) devices on its list of Hot 100 Products of 2003. In a special report in the December 11, 2003 issue, EDN stated that this year's Hot 100 Products were singled out from among thousands of new electronic products released in 2003 and were chosen for superior innovation, high levels of reader interest and a "dazzling" array of features.
"Since its release in May of 2003, the RTAX-S family has garnered a very positive response from the military and aerospace communities as the only viable radiation-tolerant alternative to ASICs that meets the density, performance and radiation-tolerance requirements for many satellite applications," said Barry Marsh, vice president of product marketing at Actel. "We are honored that the readers and editors of EDN have also recognized the RTAX-S as one of this year's best. This acknowledgment further reinforces Actel's leadership in the market and serves as a testament to Actel's long-standing commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable solutions for some of the most demanding space applications."
The RTAX-S family of FPGAs offers inherent single-event latchup (SEL) immunity; >37MeV-cm2/mg SEU capability; and total ionizing dose (TID) performance in excess of 200 Krads. The family also features embedded RAM with an upset rate of <1E-10 errors/bit-day with error detection and correction (EDAC). With 2-million system gates, the RTAX2000S, the largest device in the family, contains support for up to 288k bits of embedded SRAM; 684 user I/Os; and 10,752 SEU-hardened registers.
Based on Actel's AX architecture and scalable platform, the RTAX-S devices include several key architectural advancements: an embedded FIFO controller; a fully fracturable SuperCluster that allows high logic module utilization; a core tile structure that provides tighter clock skew across the device; and a flexible clock structure with eight global clocks available equally across the chip, eliminating the need for clock floorplanning and easing design migration.
