12/22/2003 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), the industry leader in USB, announced that Electronic Products magazine has given its 2003 "Product of the Year" award to Cypress’s WirelessUSBTM LS 2.4 GHz radio-system-on-a-chip. The product will be formally recognized in the magazine’s January issue.
This award is the third received by Cypress WirelessUSB products this year. In April, WirelessUSB earned EDN magazine’s "Innovation of the Year" award and in June it also won the coveted "Electron d’Or" award from Electronique, the leading electronics monthly magazine in France.
"We are honored that the industry recognizes the unique value that WirelessUSB brings to wireless systems designers who must make the switch to 2.4 GHz but don’t need the complexity of network-based alternatives like Bluetooth and Zigbee," said Rich Kapusta, director of wireless products marketing at Cypress.
For the past 43 years, Electronic Products magazine (www.electronicproducts.com) has reported on important developments in products and product technology. Its editorial, which includes industry trends, product highlights and updates and new product announcements, serves as a key information source for 123,000 engineers and managers each month. The "Product of the Year" award is given to a handful of companies to recognize products for their innovative approach to solving key problems while minimizing end-user costs.
Priced starting under $2.00, WirelessUSB LS offers manufacturers and end-users of wireless PC human interface devices (HIDs), video game console peripherals and remote controls the best combination of performance and cost versus competing wireless technologies. It enables communication at distances of up to 10 meters, with an average latency of less than four milliseconds and a transmission rate of 62.5 kbps. Featuring a highly integrated radio transceiver plus digital baseband on a single chip, the technology enables designers to significantly decrease development time, component count and system cost while improving operating range, power-consumption and latency. The product, now in full production, is offered as both a transceiver (CYWUSB6934) and transmit-only device (CYWUSB6932). Cypress also offers a WirelessUSB development kit (CY3632), priced at $750.
