12/22/2003 - Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq: ZRAN) announced that its TL851 Universal Digital Television Decoder and TL811 TV/STB Controller IC are now shipping in a variety of high definition display types including DLP and CRTs as well as set top boxes and Personal Video Recorders (PVRs) in the U.S., Japan and Korea.
The newest TL8xx based designs, available in retail stores now include:
Thomson RCA and Scenium brand high definition televisions with rear projection CRTs and some of the industry's lowest cost Digital Light Projection (DLPTM) televisions. Screen sizes range from 50 inches to 61 inches and all models include DVI and 1394 connectivity to digital recording devices and cable and satellite set top boxes. In addition to built-in ASTC broadcast support, a QAM demodulator provides digital cable compatibility.
Thomson's two new ATSC Terrestrial STBs can be paired with RCA or non-RCA high definition monitors.
"These are the latest in a long and successful line of products based on our TL8xx generation ICs, software, and platforms, that have included industry leading designs from more than 20 companies," said Neil Mitchell, senior director of marketing for Zoran's DTV division. "The award winning TL8xx family has successfully pioneered the commercial development of HDTV technology in the US, Japan, and Korea, the first markets to adopt HDTV."
In addition to the new products from Thomson, the CES and EDN Innovations Award winning TL8xx ICs are included in HDTVs, STBs, and PVRs in the US, Japan, Korea and Taiwan from many of the leading consumer electronics manufacturers: Sony, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Funai, Daewoo, Teco and ReplayTV.
Moreover, the TL855 version is at the heart of multiple broadcast and professional products from Mitsubishi, Aastra, and JVC that are deployed in the US and Japan. The TL880 PC version is in products from AccessDTV, Digital Stream, Global Telemann, Hauppauge, Macro Image Technology and Sasem Corporation.
