Anritsu Rolls Out Frequency Converter for 802.11a Networks

12/22/2003 - Anritsu Company introduces the FCN4760 Frequency Converter that can be used with the Spectrum Master MS2711D to conduct highly-accurate interference analysis measurements on IEEE 802.11a networks. Covering 4.7 GHz to 6.0 GHz, the MS2711D & FCN4760 combination is designed for field use by fixed wireless engineers to ensure the proper design, deployment, and optimization of Wi-Fi networks.

The FCN4760 frequency converter brings all the standard one-button measurement capabilities of the MS2711D to Wi-Fi5 applications. These measurements include occupied bandwidth, carrier-to-inference ratio (C/I), adjacent channel power ratio, and channel power. In addition, the FCN4760 is designed with a type-N female connector so that external directional or omni-directional antennas can be attached and used for interference sniffing. The MS2711D itself covers the frequency range of 100 kHz to 3GHz for measurements of 802.11b and g and other wireless protocols.

The MS2711D/FCN4760 delivers a measurement range of -40 to -100 dBm, giving the sensitivity needed for assessing potential interference issues during installation and troubleshooting of 802.11a access points. Full span sweeps from 4.7 to 6 GHz can be performed in = 1.1 seconds; longer times can be set if desired. Minimum sweep time for zero span can be set from <50 Ás to 200 seconds. The high sweep speed, which is the fastest available in a handheld spectrum analyzer, allows intermittent interference signals to be characterized with a high degree of fidelity. The MS2711D's AM/FM/SSB demodulator further improves a user's ability to identify interfering signals.

The FCN4760 can tolerate input signals up to -5 dBm without damage. Complementing this capability is the spectrum analyzer's dynamic attenuation feature, which tracks the input signal level and automatically adjusts the Spectrum Master's input attenuation level to provide the best possible performance of high RF signal levels.

Taking advantage of the widely-accepted Spectrum Master design, the MS2711D/FCN4760 combination has a simple multilingual user interface in English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese and Japanese. A full range of marker functions - including peak, center, and delta - are available with the MS2711D. For simplified amplitude measurements, the MS2711D is equipped with limit lines that allow users to create quick pass/fail measurements.

Housed in a rugged case, the FCN4760 has been designed to match the excellent environmental performance of the MS2711D and withstand the harsh environments and terrain associated with field use. The FCN4760 weighs less than one pound, making it easy to carry to the field in the soft case shipped with the MS2711D. The FCN4760 is powered by the MS2711D, making field use simple and carefree.

The FCN4760 is available for delivery in 4 to 8 weeks.
