Non-Bootable Systems Recover with Phoenix cME, Global Hauri's ViRobot

12/19/2003 - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC), the company driving the global core system software standard for 25 years, has announced a partnership with Global Hauri, a leading anti-virus solution provider in the global market, to provide anti-virus protection and data recovery applications for core system software in desktops and notebooks. Global Hauri's ViRobot will provide a solution within Phoenix Core Managed EnvironmentTM (cME) that allows users to repair systems that have been made non-bootable by a virus attack.

"Global Hauri understands that enterprises need a safe and convenient environment that protects and recovers their most critical applications," said Eric Kwon, CEO of Global Hauri. "We offer the first real-time solution to fix virus-infected files so users can recover 100% of their data without an additional cleaning utility. By combining Phoenix's leadership in core system software with our award-winning solutions, we can guarantee our customers the most powerful, flexible and secure anti-virus and data protection in the marketplace."

Anti-virus applications have become an IT system necessity as virus attacks continue to plague every information infrastructure in the enterprise. And while anti-virus applications protect systems from an attack, they don't provide repairs. Once a virus attack occurs, an enterprise must repair the damage. Some analysts report that 72% of all enterprise anti-virus expenditures are those spent on clean-up after a virus attack, so recovery is a critical element. Global Hauri provides an anti-virus and data recovery solution that both rids the network of existing viruses and recovers the users' valuable information.

"We are helping Global Hauri extend their solution down to the system level so they can gain a competitive advantage by offering the most accessible anti-virus protection for all users," said Timothy D. Eades, Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing and Product Division for Phoenix. "Phoenix will continue to evolve our products and set the standard for meeting the ever- increasing security demands of large enterprises."

To make their anti-virus and data recovery solution safe from viruses, hacking or other system malfunctions, Global Hauri implemented Phoenix cME PC Edition to create a highly secure host protected area (HPA) on the user's hard drive. The HPA hosts the critical anti-virus and data recovery applications. It also guarantees users an always-available and more secure solution because it runs independently of the operating system. By offering Global Hauri's solution in the protected environment, Phoenix provides OEMs and system builders the ability to differentiate and add value to their systems while increasing the level of protection to overcome the growing security threats.

Global Hauri is the latest company to join the Phoenix Trusted Partner Network program, which provides independent software vendors (ISVs) and channel and technology partners a profitable program to seamlessly integrate their solutions with Phoenix offerings and to expand market reach.
