12/18/2003 - SwitchCore AB (publ.), developer of integrated switching devices for internet and data communications, announced a product launch with Aruba Wireless Networks. Aruba is the premier provider of modular wireless LAN (WLAN) solutions and their products recently received Network World's World Class Award in the first wireless LAN competitive testing ever performed.
The wireless LAN market is defined by access points and bridges in the SOHO and enterprise sector, as well as broadband gateways, network interface cards and client devices. Aruba competes in the worldwide market for wireless LAN equipment estimated to grow from $1.4 billion today to $2.8 billion by 2005 according to Cahners In-Stat Group.
Aruba's SwitchCore-based products, the Aruba 5000 and Aruba 2400, each give customers a single system that can connect thousands of simultaneous users to hundreds of access points. The products are based on an extensible and distributed wireless processing architecture that delivers industry-leading performance (multi-gigabit encrypted throughput) and scalability. The products centralize the administration and processing of features such as 802.1X authentication, authorization and access control, encryption/decryption and mobility management.
"Aruba's Wi-Fi switches integrate centralized management, automated deployment capabilities and high performance multi-layered security, transparently bringing together the wired and wireless world," said Pankaj Manglik, president and CEO of Aruba Wireless Networks. "As the core switching technology in Aruba's products, SwitchCore's chips provide the bandwidth and QoS required to serve the needs of Aruba's high-end modular and stackable wireless solutions. We are pleased with the excellent performance and support that SwitchCore has offered us to make these platforms industry successes."
"Aruba's Wireless Network solution is the most promising switching product family in the rapidly growing Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) market. We are very happy to be able to provide Aruba with a silicon solution enabling them to increase their market share. SwitchCore's commitment to Aruba depicts the broad range of applications that our technology services," said Henric Isacsson, CEO of SwitchCore.
Aruba's signature line, the Aruba 5000 remains the industry's only modular Wi-Fi switching system for campus backbone or data center environments. It combines powerful 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet switching with stateful LAN-speed firewalling, VPN concentrator features and innovative new wireless security services within a single, high performance and highly resilient system.
The newest member of Aruba's Wi-Fi switch family, the Aruba 2400 is a stackable 24-port (+2 GbE uplinks) Wi-Fi switching system designed for regional headquarters or dense building deployments. It supports up to 512 simultaneous users and 48 access points (APs), and provides integrated serial and power over Ethernet (802.3af and Cisco proprietary) links. Aruba's 2400 took Best of Show honors for Security Infrastructure at the COMDEX exhibition in Las Vegas, the world's premier showcase for the Information Technology industry.
Both of these products deploy Switchcore's CXE-1000, a 24 Fast Ethernet and 4 Gigabit Ethernet wire-speed router with dense Quality of Service (QoS) functions.
