Metrowerks Rolls Out CodeTEST Software Analysis Tools for Symbian OS

12/18/2003 - Symbian OSTM developers now have a comprehensive software analysis tool suite with the release of CodeTEST&trade Software Analysis Tools for Symbian OS.

The CodeTEST suite is engineered to help reduce development costs and improve application quality by offering code visibility and precise application analysis within a single tool. This allows users to conduct performance measurement and verification throughout the development process. The suite offers accurate, detailed measurement analysis of applications running on Symbian OS development systems, including performance profiling, software trace, memory analysis and code coverage capabilities.

CodeTEST tools are flexible, offering multiple configurations, including:

  • CodeTEST Hardware Probe (Hardware In-Circuit), for cases when the highest degree of accuracy is required. The hardware probe configuration assists developers during system testing and validation phases with a set of real-time measurement and analysis tools for use with reference designs and prototype hardware.
  • CodeTEST Software Probe (Software In-Circuit), a software only version that allows continuous analysis of Symbian OS programs as they run on the mobile device during application testing and validation phases
  • CodeTEST Native Probe, which allows developers to perform application measurement and verification tasks on systems targeting the Symbian OS emulator and based on the Windows® operating system. CodeTEST Native Probe is intended for use throughout the application development process.

“Symbian OS developers need greater visibility into the performance and execution of applications that help speed code execution and improve overall code quality,” said David Clifton, vice president of Marketing, Metrowerks. “With the introduction of CodeTESTTM Software Analysis Tools for Symbian OS, Metrowerks meets this need, helping Symbian OS developers to better satisfy customer demand for high-quality, lower-cost mobile phones.”

“Metrowerks’ CodeTEST Software Analysis Tools is the first truly comprehensive software analysis tool suite for Symbian OS,” said Ian Weston, vice president, Partner Support, Symbian. “Designed to help developers reduce costs, improve application quality and ultimately create higher quality devices, it is wholly aligned with Symbian’s strategy to deliver top quality developer tools through partnership with industry leaders.”

Developers in the avionics, networking communications, and automotive industries have successfully used CodeTEST Software Analysis Tools to handle software measurement and verification tasks. This newest release of CodeTEST Software Analysis Tools for Symbian OS further extends these capabilities for the wireless industry and is compatible with C and C++ languages.
